99 Alero won't turn overbabygracie_02 08-20-2006, 11:44 AM My husband just replaced the water pump on my 99 Alero. After following the manual to a "T"...we went to start it...It tried to turn over the first time but made a couple loud "clicking or clunking" noises. I stopped turning the key. Went to try it again and nothing. We can hear the starter engage, but nothing turning over....HELPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I can't drive our 454 Chevy that gets 10 mph much longer!!!) xeroinfinity 08-21-2006, 10:12 AM check the battery, and its cables, make sure they are clean. check the started wires also, they could be dirty or loose. And welcome to AF ! babygracie_02 08-21-2006, 08:15 PM I have power....I can hear the starter engage....The engine will simply try to turn over then stop....like it's getting stuck....won't crank.... xeroinfinity 08-21-2006, 08:33 PM The starter can be bad even though its engauging, Also you can hav enough power to engauge the starter but not enough amps to crank it over. Get that tested. Most parts stores can test them for you. Other than that, the worst case the motors locked up. And thats no goood :nono: Good Luck scoopy03 09-03-2006, 09:31 PM im not sure if wut year this started but there is a security thing that prevents the alero from starting. i had the same problem my car wouldnt turn over and all i had to do was turn the ignition to on position and let the security go off and then turn it off and try to start it immediately and my car started. maybe if u havent got the problem solved yet u can try this method. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
