Opened up the tank via the pump/sender access under the back seat and had a look inside. The dent is well forward of the pump/sender unit, no harm. Inside surface looks well-dimpled but otherwise intact. Got the skid plate back into shape and back on to boot!

http://home.us.net/~stimpy/xterra/Paragon_PA/2002-08-17/069_Skidplate_repaired.jpg

Planned to let the frame rail and spring perch take the hit, but was a few inches off. My efforts to free myself only made it worse. The skid plate was ripped right off the crossmember bolts, the rear bend was straightened and a new one created a few inches further up its length.
Hi-lifting off the rear bumper and pushing me off it a few times finally got me clear. Remove the 2 remaining bolts holding the skid plate on and we were back on the trail.

The tanks are like 6 or 7 layers thick as I recall, sure glad Nissan didn't skimp on 'em!

So glad to have you back on the forums Mike!

Now, who was the first to smash, or should I say destroy, his gas tank? Wasn't it your old friend Pikachu?

Time for a decent skid plate on the gas tank???

I think Superjens had a similar incident up there in the mystical land of Canada.

Pikachu NEVER asked anyone for any help. Some friends helped him out.

As I remember it ..

It was Mr.T , FSR and one or two others that came to the boards trying to pan handle to get some money to fix Pikachu's truck after he ramed a piece of ice up into his radiator core. I never once saw Pika whore for money on the boards.

The story I got was that Pika did have insurance but did not want to file because his rates would go up. What inspired the others to come to the board to get "donations" I will never understand.

Nonono, I never rammed anything with any part of my truck. I came crawling down some boulders and a misplaced wheel had my gas tank touch a rock. Not nearly the same size dent as Brent's!

dented by a feather (http://www.superjens.com/pics/05-2002-Squamish/x1-gastank.jpg)

Huh...since you have nothing better to do than search for old info find your bookmark for the thread!!!

Panhandle...yea ok...WHY did people donate money to his cause? Because he is OUR FRIEND and has done way more than you have for the Xterra community and would be the first to help ANY of HIS FRIENDS in a similar circumstance or anything for that matter. :flipa:

Best Butthead voice..

To Todd:

"Can we be in your gang sir?"

Helping a friend and going to a PUBLIC message board to ask for money are two differant things..

Did I feel sorry for him? Yes. Was I going to pull money out of my pocket because he did not want to use his insurance? Hell no.

There is a differance between helping a friend because he is down and out and helping someone who does not want to help themself.

I bet you are one of those people who believe it is better to collect unemployment and suck off the government tits rather than getting off your ass and get a job.

Don't you have to go move your two car shop back to a one car shop or something?

Because the thread turned into a Pika bashing..never once a mention of Oleg that's why and how many people joined this board since last summer when Oleg had his mishap and have no idea what he might be referrring to?

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO NJ AND VISITED EOE?? WHY DOES IT MATTER IF SOMEONE..ANYONE WORKS OUT OF THEIR DRIVEWAY, GARAGE OR A EPOXY PAINTED FLOOR SWEPT CLEAN SHOP...THE REASON PEOPLE TRUST, FREQUENT AND SPEND MONEY WITH SOME COMPANY IS THE TALENT...END OF STORY.

I will answer this without all the joking and poking..

I have never been to NJ and visited EOE. In all reality it does not matter if you work out of the back of a hot dog stand. I only poked at you about it because I knew that it would get a rise out of you. (and it worked.. I don't think I have ever seen you fly off the handle with such little provication before)

As for a company that people spend their money with and trust. I would ask you why it took you so many months to repay a certain Southeastern Xterra owner for parts that they returned (unused)? I believe that the amount was in the 300+ range. (this does not even approach the question as to why you did not respond to their e-mail OR phone calls for such a long period of time) I can not think of a legitimate reason for an honest customer oriented business to do these things.

Carlton, that's enough already. Mike and Oleg earned their spankings in this thread, FSR has kept it above the belt. I'll nuke my post if I have to.
I only brought Pika in as a counter to Mike's attack, not even picking on Pika. Shit happens.

Spanked? Not even close. The only one spanking me is my beautiful wife. :D

BTW Carlton - you'd better stop since Brent told you to. :bloated:
