Can I remove the front driveshaft for a test drive to help diagnose a noise? I have an independent telling me it's a TC noise and the dealer has no idea, they would just have to start into it. My thinking is if I remove the driveshaft and the noise remains, that rules out the TC, right? I am just trying to narrow down the possibilities. I cannot afford to "just start into it".
My 1999 JGC 4.0 has recently begun making a loud banging noise (you can feel it too) from the front under decelleration from speeds over 50 MPH. Light pressure back on the gas pedal makes it go away. There is no growling on turns and it does not transmit back thru the steering wheel or pedals. The motor mounts and suspension appear tight.
