Someone shot 2 BB Pellets in the back end of my 2002 Grand AM GT RAM AIR a couple of weeks ago. :disappoin It happened at night while I was asleep. I suspect it was local teenagers. :angryfire Anyway, it left 2 indentations and took off the white paint. The gray primer is visible. Is there a good way to repair this without spending a lot of money?

Thanks!

A paintless dent removal place could get the dents out, then you could toch up the spots with lillte paint cans the have at auto parts stores. Just sand a bit around the chiped places with 600grit and then spray a few light coats over the spots and buff it a little.

should work ok.

depends on how big the dents are and where they are.

usually requires gettting to the back of the panel affected by the dent. Dent removal kit might work but dont hold your breath.

In a shop they can weld a wire to the center of the dent and use a puller to pull it out perfect :)

If the spots are not to big and deep, get some Duplicolor Scratch and Fix, and start filling it in a little at a time, letting it dry in between coats. You can fill some pretty nasty dings and dents this way.

Good luck and Welcome to AF !

Each dent is the size of a BB Pellet....or about the size of one of these little smiley faces. Not really big enough to pull out, but big enough to be noticeable. They probably go in about 3-4mm. When you have an Arctic White car, those 2 gray indentations really stick out like a sore thumb.

Thanks for your advice!

Forgot to mention: They are just to the left of the center of the trunk.

That on the trunk, people behind might notice it well :(

If you can get to the back side of the dent,
and rub it out with something,
then maybe the touch-up will help the rest ...

Hope you catch those vandals !!

oh....it's noticable alright! I looked inside the truck, but it looks like it's designed in 2 pieces, so the indents don't go through to the inside. Now I have these 2 nice gray indents, about the size of these little smileys, imbedded in the trunk of my Artic White Grand AM GT! :banghead: I'm really upset about this. Hubby doesn't get it...lol...maybe because he drives a Focus!:iceslolan
(He hasn't been the same since someone drove through his '73 Camaro 20 years ago, right after he spent 2 years restoring it).

Some people just go,"It's just a car!".......ARGH!.......um.....I take care of my car and I love this thing! Other than the 1974 Nova SS (RIP)....350, 4 barrell, 3 speed on the column, jacked up rear.....man, I loved that car....I had as a teenager this is the best car I've owned.

I gotta tell ya....my hubby "won" his company car for a week. (They do drawings and let employees have the car for a week) It was a Porsche Boxster and I got to drive it. Ok.....cute little car...fast.....but I wanted my GA back!....hey, it's fast, too! No tilt steering. My knees hit the steering wheel every time I shifted. Only 3 speeds on the wipers. No thanks. I'll take the comfort of my GA any day over a Porsche Boxster.

I know you guys know how I feel.

So, I'm thinking maybe I may have to bite the bullet (no pun intended here) and have a pro look at this. I wish they would have hit the window. At least that could have been replaced. Bandits! :angryfire

Thanks for listening!

yes it sucks when you spend hard time and money restoring a ride, and some JA drives into it :angryfire:

I tend to get attached to my vehicles also, esspecially when I hav time and money involved.

Your best bet would be to take it to the pros.
They'll fix it and you'll never know it was dented.
Just dont let them fill it with bondo :nono:
it'll pop off after several slams of the trunk and then you'll be back to square one.

Good Luck

Never any bondo! YUK!

How do you attach pictures from a photo file?
I took a picture of it, but it seems it only allows me to use a httm file.

Bummer

To post a pic you just paste in the URL in the mesage box below or the reply area, which ever you use.

if the pictuer is not to big, you can use the quick reply at the bottom here, and click on the yello-ish square on the top of the message area, if you mouse over it ti says "insert image", that will open a window to paste in the url.
Then it'll post the pic on the page without clicking on a link(url). Its best to just post the URL if the pics very big, that way people on dial up wont hav to wait 10-15 minutes for the pic to load.

Hope that helps!

forgot to say you cant upload straight from your PC to here on the post.
You need a host to upload the pic then you post the url.
Right click on most pics here and select properties, you'll see that it has a url and what the host domain is.

I use http://photobucket.com/ (http://photobucket.com/) its easy and free :)
hope that makes more sense.

I tried resizing and it said that it did, but when I went to put it on the page it was the same size. I'll keep trying to figure it out.

its ok, the link works fine now, though its a big pic ,

They are the way I described, which makes them hard to get out.
Any dents in my car just look horrible, as they are very noticable. I suppose I could stick my "Stop the Hose Job" magnet over it (never use bumper stickers on cars), but I'm afraid it would rust. Besides I just want to find a way to fix it.

Thanks for all of your help. I wish I could find a way to make the pic smaller. Maybe if I take more and try to make them smaller in photo shop and then transfer to photobucket it may work. I'll try tonight.

nice Grand AM !
I like those chrome wheels :bigthumb:

Ya in photobucket thiers the 3 buttons over a pic, click the edif one and you can resize it to 25,50,75% of the original.

Ya it does look like that dent might be a job for the Autobody shop. Should be able to get it fixed for around $100-150 maybe less.
Another area that rusts in GAs is inside the trunk, where the two pieces are welded together by the latch and the sealer they used on the trunks.

Good Luck maeven1966.

that sucks. Id go get it fixed if i were u too. I know the feeling though. I went to a concert in pittsburgh last summer and had my car partied on....literally, someone threw a party on top of my car while i was several hundred yards away tailgating at my buddy's truck. Roof, hood, trunk...all dented with foot prints. My trunk was used as a table with half eaten cheese burgers, potato chips, plates, spilled drinks all over it. Greasy hand and face prints on all my windows and 3 ft of trash piled around my car...not to mention a glass beer bottle WEDGED under all four of my tires. I drove home extremely p!ssed off. Took it to the autobody and it turns out i had vandalism coverage on my insurance so i got "free" repairs. Lucky for those @ssholes who did it, i didnt see it happen. It wouldnt have been pretty.

whats wrong with people?

Hey GASE 95 !
Ya people these days are pretty freakin ignorant and irresponsible, inconsiderate, and broken as hell.

:angryfire: If that happened to my ride,
well lets just say thier better not be any one anywhere near it when I left :D
I'd run some damn punks right over~ then I'd get out and :nutkick: them :chair:

Lucky you had that covered!

BTW, Is that your 95' in your sig?
I like that front bumper/grill :)

I havent updated it for a while so its not all current. For example i got my front facia fixed, got some subs, and a few other minor things done. But all in all the pics show it how it is minus the duct tape LOL.

I Paint stuff regularly, cars, trucks,
what ever I can get my hands on :D
My parents used to always hide the paint when I was a kid

Though, I do wish I had had enough of the body color to paint the interior, like yours, but I only hav 2 quarts of that "mantra green" and it wasnt cheap.
My front will need painted when I replace the bumper and it'll take a pint or so for that.

Damn Raccooons :angryfire:

Nice car.....Love the cranberry!

Oooooh.....partying on my car would just make me burn! :angryfire

now I'm thinking of things I can do to dress my car up......don't want a pimp looking thing, though. I think I'll start with crome tips on the dual exhaust. I do want to keep as much original as possible, so any ideas will help.

Thanks guys!

Thiers a few things here and there you could add to your Grand AM.

heres parts for your car URL, they hav some stuff.
PFYC (http://www.pfyc.com/store/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=PFYC&Category_Code=GA)
Also look at the thread "Oem and Performance parts"
it has tons of site with all things GA :)

Parts for your car is a great site to get some stuff to add on to your G/a. If you want to dress it up a little bit you can also check out www.grafxwerks.com (http://www.grafxwerks.com) they have some nice decals and emblems that look stock but will add that little extra to your car.

maeven1966
08-16-2006, 04:39 PM
Thanks guys.....I'll check them all out. Not sure about putting decals on my car, though. I don't like stuff that won't come off, like bumper stickers and such. Think I'd rather just bite the bullet and get the real stuff. Do you think a pontiac dealer might be able to get dress kits?

grfnkl
08-16-2006, 05:36 PM
The dealerships sell a different hood and wing for the g/a's that you can buy. For body kits and everything else, you have to go aftermarket. I like the SC/t that PFYC provides. The site i provided doesn't just have decals, they also provide new badges (or so the site states) Some of the stuff i have purchased from them looks really good, and it does hold up really well. For instance i changed my front pontiac emblem to reflective black and it's been on there for 4 years now. is there anything particular that your are looking to do to make yours more "unique" to you?

maeven1966
08-16-2006, 06:20 PM
I'm not sure yet....looking for ideas right now. I know I definitely want to do chrome tips on the exhaust....probably this weekend. I want to change the emblem on the front...do they come in plum purple? I think plum would look nice with the white, chrome and gray interior. I like the idea of chrome inside on the door instrumentation. The second layer skirt in the from would be awesome and I'd like to get the ram air hood. There is only one car around here like that and it's red. I like the factory chrome rims that are on it, so I think I'll keep those. It was an expensive option. Stuff under the hood would be cool. Any ideas for dressing that up? My other idea is to get the GT emblem painted on the side doors (emblem size, not big) in black, plum and gray with either little flames or lightening bolts running from them, since my car only has the GT emblem on the trunk and RAM AIR Emblem on the front fenders. I like the rear 3rd light idea with the "Grand AM GT" cover. I want a car that looks sharp, not pimped out with flashing lights and stuff. We have enough of those on Hondas and Toyotas around here. Of course, it still needs to see a body shop for those little dents. Someone I know suggested buying paint and filling them in....but I don't know. I'm skeptical about how long that would last.

Hum, my GT has Grand AM GT on the doors,
and just V6HO on the fenders.

They must hav changed their designs for yr to yr.

THiers tons of stuff out thier, and some places like http://www.customautoaccents.com/ they can do custom stuff, so they say, but it'll probly be more $$.
But spending some ca$h to make your car unique is pricless :)

I know we all need one of those Ram Air hoods :bigthumb:
Haha ! I'd like Two , One for each of my GA's.

Though I do wonder about the aero dynamics of the car with those scooops sticking up on the hood :grinyes:

maeven1966 Let us know what you are looking for,
someone here will surly help you find what youre looking for.

Also , that paint tip might work out fine.
Just need to prep the area before hand.
Clean it after maybe a very light sanding only on the spot that needs fixed.
Use light coats of touch-up paint ,
letting it dry good in between,
and it should hold up for years.

maeven1966
08-16-2006, 07:00 PM
Yeah....that's what my friend's hubby, Tony said. He suggested an Arctic White Paint pen (I can get it at Walmart)....prep the area and let it dry at least 2 days in between "dabs". Eventually it should fill in and not be noticable....unless you are really looking for it. I'd rather spend a couple hundred doing "other things" to my car. Hubby laughs at me every time I mention "detailing" my car.....you would think a guy would understand these things! Well, if I have to buy stuff and have Tony install it, I will. He's a mechanic and in process of restoring a '74 Chevelle SS for my friend, Kathy (his wife). He's at least one mechanic I can trust.

xeroinfinity

Sounds like a good plan anyways :)

My GA SE has many touch ups,
and I guess the GT does too.

I hav hood scratches from cats(i think running from the dogs) and a real big scratch, fiiled them all with body touch up pins.
Ya I could spend a week sanding the hood/fenders down and repainting it, but why, it'll just get scratched again :shakehead:

If you get to much in the dent use 500-600(or higher)grit and wet sand it, you'll not even notice after a waxing or two.

btw I trust no mechanic

I did have the 3rd brake light cover that said grand am gt on mine, but had to take it off due to NJ state inspection failing me for it. When i did have it on, it did get a lot of attention especially from those little civics that pull up from behind at night... hahahahh!!! Post some pics once you get everything on. There's a link to my cardomain on the bottom in my signature that says "more grand am pics" click on it and you can see the little bit that i have done.

The badges that were on the side that said grand am gt, were only on the car until 2002, after that year they didn't put them on the sides anymore. The only year they put V6HO was the 99's and maybe a few 2000's after that they say ram air v6.

If you do the touch up's carefully they should come out nice. Since you have an Artic white car the touch up is alot easier then the Galaxy Silver Metallic like i have, you can never get that to match correctly.

Oooooh...I found a chrome gas and brake peddle I like at Auto Zone!
It's a Chinese Dragon!

I'll post updates in about 2 months when I get a few things done to it! :naughty:

I wonder why my 2002 doesn't have the Grand Am GT on the side. Maybe they stopped at 2001?

xeroinfinity

Chinese Dragon ?? Hum that sounds kool :)
Havnt been to the Zone for sometime,
may hav to see what new stuff they are carrying:grinyes:

yes the side and other markers were changed voer the years on GA's.

I thinking of shaving off my badges anyway, just extra weight :D Causing aerodynamic drag

I've been trying to find a billit fuel door, not the stickers I've seen on the net.
I really liked the older model GA's the had the fuel door that latched, and you had to flip the fuel dooor release to open it.

Ya maeven1966, post some pics when you get'r done
