ok i tried searching but to no avail. my sister has a 00 GAGT and recently her car threw a DTC code that her gas cap is mulfunctioning or not locked tight, although it is. the damn mechanic doesnt know what else to do since the DTC code says its the blasted gas cap. anyone know if theres a possible solution to this? a loose wire, fuse, or sensor? thanks in advance.

I'd try buying a new gas cap if you havnt already.

Other things it could be is the fill neck, and some of the other hoses on the gas tank. Sometimes the clamps on then get loose and leak air and or fuel.

thanks i'll look around the fuel filler area for cracks and see if the cap is locking in tight, if not then a new OEM is gonna be on the list.

What engine and what code no?
Code do not say gas cap or replace parts they justpont you to the problem.
Lot more to the evaperative emmisions system than the gas cap.
Are you filling up with engine running and getting the cap back on tight?
Post engine post back code no.

MT-2500 is right,
thier is alot more to the evap emissions sytem. canisters purge valves evap control soleniod and about 8 hoses :grinyes:

If you buy a new cap you might consider getting a locking cap  at over $3 a gal, it pays to be safe :)

the code i got, cant remember the exact code, but it says the evap system has a (small) leak somewhere. im gonna check the vac lines going from the tb to the evap canister and at least from where the evap goes to the underside of the car. does the GAGTs fuel pumps in the trunk or do i have to drop the fuel tank? TIA

small leak thats p0442.

and I really dont think the TB or vacum lines up front hav anything to with your small leak :nono:

typiclly, its in the rear of the car,
around the tank somwheres from one of those many hoses, canisters, sensors, relays etc etc.

And the Fuel pump is in the tank.
hope that helps

so what steps should i do to diagnosis and fix the problem? is this a common occurance in the GAGTs?

i did another search on the code for the leak in the evap stystem. someone mentioned checking the fuses/relays under the hood, any ideas which one to check? TIA

First step you will need a good engine capable scanner.
and then some good repai info for that code.

it is comon amoung all newr cars/trunks with a small leak in the Evap system.

Like MT said, a good scanner, and even a smoke machine is sometimes used to pin point the trouble.
Can be very aggravating and requires much patients to find small leaks.

Either way, when the leaks fixed, the light will go out on its own(it should anyways, if thiers not other problems).

The easiest way is to start with the small cheap stuff.
Or even easier, take it in to a Good shop/dealer that can solve the issue in no time at all.
