turbo for a gsr??h3ystrok3r 08-19-2002, 01:04 AM what is the best turbo for a gsr i have herd of drag (i herd best for the buck) revhard (i think is the best right now) greddy (very week) and plz list any ohter good brand i ahvent herd of :help: mr. imported 08-19-2002, 01:56 AM F-MAXX and HKS i think makes turbos. you live in CA, i believe only the Greddy kit is street legal. if you don't care then get a DRAG or Revhard kit. Whitey001 08-23-2002, 05:30 AM Mr import is correct Hks is really good but if u can pass emmisions get a Drag:greenchai civicgsr_T4_60-1 01-13-2003, 12:49 PM I checked unknown, i'm guessing that would be for custom turbo setup. Honestly, some of the turbo kits are nice, but i prefer building my own. I run a garrett T4 60-1 ball bearing turbo, inline pro manifold, custom 2.5 piping, greddy type 24 intercooler, 3in dp, tial bov, tial 40mm wastegate, and greddy manual boost controller. I spent maybe alittle more than for a predone kit, but i have much more potential on my daily driver. Low 10's the beginning of this year and hopefully a 9 sec pass by the end of the season. This is a street legal car that I drive everyday. Polygon 01-13-2003, 03:19 PM Gah, what are you thinking?!?!? No question in my mind GARRETT makes the best turbos, and I think that Greddy uses Garrett parts for some of their turbos, but I am not sure. civicgsr_T4_60-1 01-13-2003, 03:49 PM Originally posted by Polygon Gah, what are you thinking?!?!? Great kits:) civicgsr_T4_60-1 01-14-2003, 11:26 AM Originally posted by Self How much boost out of curiosity?? And yes, anything with a Garrett turbo. But NOT Greddy if you can help it. Go DRAG! Great kits:) Ran an 11.4 on 13psi with the ecu kicking the rev limiter back to 6.5krpm. I'm not sure how many lbs or boost i'll have to run to get into the mid to low 10's. I know some people say it's gonna take around 500hp just to get into the 10's. well 360hp isn't close to 500 and i'm almost at the 10sec mark. I'll let you know soon. VTEC_hawk 01-15-2003, 10:45 AM I know some people say it's gonna take around 500hp just to get into the 10's. well 360hp isn't close to 500 and i'm almost at the 10sec mark. that's why a lot of people are in the 11's - 12's and not many in the 10's.. it takes that 140-150 extra hp to drop that 1-1.5 sec. when you are going that fast. -but you knew that.... :what: VTEC_hawk 01-15-2003, 10:59 AM 1989 Chrysler LeBaron GTC. 2.2L I4, Garrett T03 Stage 2 turbo intercooled, 13PSI. 205HP, 225 ft/lbs of torque to the wheels. I pulled that from your sig. Poly.. that's Chrysler efficiancy for ya. needing 13psi on a 2.2 L motor to make only 205 HP. lol.. sorry. I guess getting 170hp from a 1.8L n/a motor makes me spoiled. BTW, I had an 88 LeBaron - the first car I ever owned - when I was 16. I had the 2.5L convertable that went 0-60 eventually. :D It got me chicks though - they like going topless when it goes topless! kris 01-15-2003, 11:06 AM Originally posted by Polygon Gah, what are you thinking?!?!? HAHA, 170hp from a stock gsr motor with no mods. Man, are you sure, you know that's at the crank, not wheel hp right. Anyway, we'll see how much more it takes for me to get into the 10's. Also, yea, there are some running in the 11's and 12's, but not to many in a full interior coupe. I've only seen one other guy do it and he has a teg with the same setup. Most people uses gutted hatches or crx's. Anyway, midseason i'll give an update. Polygon 01-15-2003, 11:27 AM Originally posted by VTEC_hawk I pulled that from your sig. Well, you have to keep a few things in mind here. That was back in 1989, and those numbers were to the wheels, not the crank. That engine, like pretty much all engines in the 80s, was VERY slow n/a, only about 93HP. I know, I had a 1984 Daytona with a 2.2L. Everybodie's engines were that way thanks to emissions regulations and gas prices that killed the muscle car era. Also you have to keep in mind that the 2.2L was SOHC, your engine is DOHC, there is a huge difference. Also the compression was set to 8.0:1. Also the exhust was restrictive. Get the DOHC head that Cosworth made for it, unrestrict it, and up the comression to 8.5:1 or 9.0:1 and then well talk. :D Trust me, when I am done with the new project, you will see what a great engine the 2.2L was. ;) Originally posted by kris I'm sure he was asking in regards to bolt on turbo kits. Not just the turbo itself. Good point. I know that Greddy sometimes uses Garrett tubos, sometimes Mitsu, both are great. So I guess I would have to go with Greddy. kris 01-15-2003, 11:27 AM Originally posted by civicgsr_T4_60-1 HAHA, 170hp from a stock gsr motor with no mods. I have eagle rods and arias pistons. Most of the guys I know that run these times are not on stock rods or pistons at all. I wouldn't want to chance it. You could get a low comp. headgasket and run those times though, i've seen that done and the guy was running mid to high 10's. VTEC_hawk 01-15-2003, 12:18 PM Yeah, I'm not talking to the wheels. I thought the 205hp you were talking about was crank too. my bad. A stock gs-r is about 145-140hp to the wheels. Also you have to keep in mind that the 2.2L was SOHC, your engine is DOHC, there is a huge difference. you throw in Variable Valve Timing and Electronic Ignition Control and all the other bells and whisltes that come in a well designed engine and yeah, there's a huge difference. I'm not crapping on anyone's car or engine preference - I guess I'm just saying that JDM companies were (and still are) leaps and bounds ahead of US motor designers and manufactures... and I hope to see one day where they combine the two and take the best of both to make a high torque, high hp motor with low emissions and great gas mileage. and while they're at it - they can solve world hunger and take out Bin Laden:rocket: and Saddam:aug2:..! :D Polygon 01-15-2003, 12:40 PM Yeah, that's what 13 more years of development can get you. :) Self 01-16-2003, 02:32 AM Originally posted by civicgsr_T4_60-1 Ran an 11.4 on 13psi with the ecu kicking the rev limiter back to 6.5krpm. But since your in alexandria, maybe you go to MIR sometimes, you'll see me there. Gotta see it to believe it. My friend who has a 00 SI motor will be running 20lbs+ this season. He also has a T4, like you. He's looking for 10s also, like you. Just seems odd that you can do it on such a low boost setting. But anyways, I don't really go to MIR that much. TOOOOO far and TOOOOOO crowded. If I run up there I usually head over to Capitol Raceway. It's a lot closer(only about 20 minutes away) and not nearly as many people there. And it doesn't have a bunch of little stock civics and stuff running, you see a lot higher proportion of really fast cars than you do at MIR it seems like to me. But yea, maybe some friends of mine and I will be able to make a trip down to MIR at least once this coming season. civicgsr_T4_60-1 01-16-2003, 09:31 AM I didn't realize capitol was so close. I've never been there, maybe i'll have to head out there one day. I know guys like jason hunt run down there. Well maybe i'll make and appearance there too. Can you run slicks on the open nights. SleeperCivic 01-16-2003, 10:06 PM I would recommend a small Greddy kit for one specific reason: the inability to make high boost pressure, but fast spooling low pressure turbo. Why? I believe the GSR motor is already a high compression motor. Obviously, you have built the internals. I don't know what a safe amount of boost to run on that motor is, but I'm sure a fast spool will be appreciated vs. a big turbo you can't spool until later on in the RPM's. Greddy makes a great product, and so does DRAG and FMAX (both use Turbonetics). Greddy's mainstream turbo's are from Mitsubishi. The DRAG kit's are really for a custom job. Most of them don't "bolt-up", don't come with some required gaskets, and the affordable kits feature crappy Tial wastegates (not saying Tial is crappy, just the ones in the kits). I believe in quality, not quantity. That's why I went with Greddy. Apexi makes a BAD ASS kit. If you want the no-doubt-shit of turbo's, have a custom DRAG kit made. civicgsr_T4_60-1 01-17-2003, 08:41 AM Originally posted by SleeperCivic I would recommend a small Greddy kit for one specific reason: the inability to make high boost pressure, but fast spooling low pressure turbo. Very good post sleepercivic. I will disagree to some degree though. First part:depending onw what you're looking for, yes the greddy might be better. But like you said, it's quick spooling but not good for high boost. Another thing, Since it's a small turbo, it's not producing much in the higher rpm's so it kills the top end. I remember when i had the greddy on my sohc. The top end only raised about 5mph which really sucked. Second:I believe the GSR is around 10:1 compression, but don't quote me. You can run about 1bar with the right tunning on stock internals. My block is built so I can obviously run alot more boost. third:Fast spooling or Good midrange and insane top end, it's up to you. Like i've said before "Once my T4 spools, it doens't matter what the other guy has". The fast spooling is nice for a car running low boost with a smaller motor. The greddy 15g would be nice for a autox car, but not a drag car. I like the lag, lets me get traction and by the end of 2nd i'm already catching and walking the other person. On a question like the originator asked, it's kinda hard to answer. All the turbo's would work fine, but it really depends on what he/she wants out of the car and what they plan on using it for. Almost any of the bolt-on kits are good for a street and moderate track use as long as you don't plan on beating everyone. A custom kit would be ideal for someone that is really serious about winning at the track and on the street. omb 08-31-2004, 12:03 AM :evillol: hello im omb i have a 90 si crx and i began a frakenstein project......i bought a b20b from japan for 600 with 15000 miles, i then decapitated the engine and got my hybrid transplant head a 92 b17a1 with ysi trany and bolt it up......i went to a freinds shop and bought a 15 pound billet steel flywhell with a 2500 pound pressure plate and 3 stage clutch............now for a test drive horrible :eek7: litterely i was like that when shifting and wot the engine.....i lost acceleration in my bottom end.....torque was there because when i started, i snap in 1 in 2500 rpms and slowly gave it gas i stay in the same dam spot doing a burn out all the way to redline  so i stop :uhoh: pull in my drive way and said what happen, just tire smoking but no dam pull toward my seat... anyways i automaticly thought of the low compression and im going turbo... since i stumble against your writing and see you have a skill for turbo setup... i bought a used tial wastegate for $100, how do i know if its 35 or 38???i also bought an obdx intercooler brand new its 27 inches long by 14 inches tall and 3 inches wide for $200 i made the piping and i found a turbo for 175.00 from power masters 50 intake and 83 exhaust and its 6 bolt....i know the purposes....i just dont know how to make the work ok....
