I would first check the fuel pressure going into the fuel rail. If you have an adjustable regulator, set it at about 42psi. I don't know what sensors you have left on the car, but if one of them is faulty, the computer will go into a closed loop. What this does is automatically runs the motor at a preset adjustment. It goes into closed loop mode whenever it is under full throttle, or a sensor is causing a check engine light. In closed loop mode, it doesn't read the sensors. In open loop it will read the sensors and adjust everything for maximum efficiency. Now lets say that your sensors are working fine. The motor will run off of the info it gets from them. If the info is incorrect, it will cause the engine to perform poorly. If I remember right, the '87 TPI motors ran off of a Mass Airflow Sensor. I would check to make sure that the MAS is set up similarly as is was in the transam. If there are gaps, or cracks in between the mas and the motor. The computer is going to adjust the motor incorrectly. More than likley your problem is a sensor problem. They are probably working correctly, but getting the wrong info. Also on that nova, your fuel system is crucial. You need a constant flow of gas. That means installing a "burp tank" and an electric fuel pump. A lot of guys use Datsun z fuel pumps. You can find more info if you buy a book through Summit racing that is for fuel injection swaps. I just got done putting a ramjet 350 into a '65 malibu. The fuel system is a big pain. It takes two lines instead of one so that extra gas that the motor doesn't need is fed back to the tank. If you have more questions you can e-mail me at jonbravo27@budlight.com :smoker:
