2002 Alero Stock Crossovers?

In a 2000 Alero (both 2door GLS) I have installed speakers and had no problems. It appears that in the 2002 they have added 2 way speakers in the back and crossovers somewhere inside the vehicle.
We need to find those crossovers so that we can replace them with the infinity ones that came with the speakers that we are installing.
Does anyone know where these crossovers/filters are located in the vehicle. I did some testing and I know that the front and back have a high and low so they are filtered somewhere.
Please someone help who has done this before.

*We have already installed a deck and it appears that the crossovers are not near the deck. Maybe under the glove compartment but we have started looking there already.:banghead:

Welcome to AF c0l0jar0 !

I think the amp/crossover is in the trunk area,
driverside, just look behind the covers on the trunks sides.

Thanks a bunch, I will check it tomorrow. Hopefully it will save me a lot more digging.

I just realized, I wasn't clear that we are looking for both the front and back if they are different. Are those there too (the crossovers)?

The ones for the front one is actually connected to the Tweeter..

Yes they are close to the main speaker in the doors.
ITs about 3/4" and black, taped into the wire harness.

The rears could be the same...

Are you sure that it is located near the tweeter in the 2002? We looked there, and in my 2000 Alero it was a wire to the mid-range speaker and then another wire from the mid, up-through a capacitor (filter), and then to the tweeter.

This 2002 has 4 wires going into the conduit into the door (the tweeter is not in series with the mid, like mine) like they were split somewhere else in the vehicle.

I appreciate the advice but it sounds like what you're describing matches my 2000, not this 2002.

Thank you for your help.

***(I just realized when I said "in series" that I just meant they both are along the same line, they aren't literally in series, electrically speaking) Sorry so long winded.

I guess that means that no one knows. :frown: I'll keep looking or just run all new wires.

if the 02 has 4 wires in the harness at the door and to the rear then the crossovers are built into the amp, thats in the trunk.

I looked at the wiring diagram and its crap! it did show any locations of crossovers or resisters :dunno:

You have the wiring diagram? Is there any way that I could see that?

So we should check the trunk for all that. Its my buddies car and he works like 12 hours a day. I will check it out.

thanks

Alright. So I got fed up with waiting and I called him at 11pm and said come over!

We checked the back and found the stock amplifier that you had described. Yes it is what is filtering all of the speakers and now I have a delimna.
Should we bypass it?

This forum was suggesting that running it from the deck sounds better than the amp.
http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=462937

Is that true? I would believe it.
Now the thing is, i would like to place the new Xovers where this amp was when I bypass it and leave the old wires in place.

How much resistance is there from wiring from the front to the back to the front again? Is that a problem? Or should I just cut the harness to the Amp and hook up the new Xovers right there?

Thanks for all of your help. I know that this has been complicated. I really appreciate it.

Our plan is to connect all of the crossovers into the connector that used to go into the stock amp (and pull the female off the board). It would really, really be helpful if you could give us that wiring diagram
-==- xeroinfinity -==-.

It would save us from pulling the deck out etc.
I would really appreciate it.

THANKS

I can give my e-mail if you can give me the diagram.

Sorry for the delay.
I do NOT hav the diagram for the 02' or I would hav already posted it.
I looked at one and it DID NOT show the amp, or the wires too and fro , no crossovers either shown.

I'll post the one I hav, its worthless though.

I understand totally what you are saying you want to do.

For the time and money on all this, I'd just junk it all!
Put in aftermarket stereo and amps!!
