Yes, thats right, Im buying a car with 32k miles for $1 dollar.

Its a 1998 Dodge Neon  Now say what you will, call me rice(er)'s little brother, etc but its my first car and its fun to drive due to its go-kart like handling and overall feel. Its got the stronger of the 2 engines available and its a "Sport" model so it has sport suspension and an exhaust which actually sounds pretty sweet for stock, with a nice grumble at idle and you can hear it nice at higher revs. It may only be a neon, but hey a dolllar is a dollar. Not to mention it gets around 28 and 41 mpg. Since its a dollar, I can still get another car and use this as a DD for good gas mileage and such. The car is in perfect order and runs perfectly, not even a torn seat.

Now I know what your thinking, " Wow Im really thirsty" so you get up and get a drink and come back and your like " Hey wait a minute, how IS this kid getting a Neon for $1 ! "

You see, my Grandfather told my Mom he does'nt want to drive anymore because he feels he is too old to drive now, so he is giving the car to me for $1. He only drove the car on Wednesdays to Foodtown which is no more than 5 miles away from him, hence the low mileage for an 8 year old car. He used it so little infact, that there was a sticker on the windshield from Jiffy Lube from 2001 saying to bring the car in for the next oil change at 33,262 miles. Its not 6 years later and the car still has'nt reached that point yet. :grinno: * See pic of sticker below

So anyways in the next week or so he's going to sell it to me for $1 so the title can be transfered to my name and such ( Since to transfer it there has to be a sale of at least $1 - Or at least were going to do it that way to make it easy )

So laugh all you want, but hey, $1 dollar for 28 and 41 mpg does'nt sound to bad to me :naughty:

That's not a bad deal for your first car. I like the color. If you don't rice it up you'll be just fine. One thing you'll definitely want to do is change the oil first thing. Even if the car hasn't reached the next recommended service point in mileage it's been sitting for so long that the oil is probably all settled and gunked up. Maybe do a tranny flush too. Is it a manual or automatic?

Yes oil is supposed to be changed a lot more often than that. even if its not being driven.

Sell it to me for $100. That's a 10000% return on your investment

Even if it didn't run, unless the engine was like missing. If it was something minor you could still pay to have it fixed for probably less than buying a working car.... probably. If not, you could atleast spend the dollar and beat the hell out of it for fun or something right?

Yeah I changed the oil anyways before that but I just thought it was funny. And its an automatic.

Its also pretty easy to do a SRT-4 swap into these cars :evillol:

I see what your saying. My buddy bought a probe boddy for $1 and dropped a mazda 4 banger in it and he only spent $600.

I normally prefer manuals, but since you could (and most likely will) use it as a dialy driver and get another car to fix up, automatic is probably better.

Yeah I cant drive a manual though. Well, I know how to in my mind, Ive just never gotten the chance to try it in a real car. My dad wont lt me get a manual car anyways.

However, its also decently easy to switch the trans to manual in this car :grinyes:

I'm just turning 17 and I've been driving a manual since I was like 14, heh. I still kill it every once in a while, gotta change my floor mats 'cause my shit keeps getting stuck on the clutch. Anyways, my advice is drive the neon use all the money you save up (mainly from the good mpgs) and put it towards a decently affordable manual car later on down the road. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Yeah good advice

Ill pry just get some new headlight for the neon since theyre all fogged and kinda yellow. And MAYBE some rims or at least some better looking tire covers.

Maybe some tail lights too since the stock ones are kinda ugly. But it'll be on strict non-ricer regulations. I saw someone put some pretty nice tails on his green neon and it looked better than I thought it would.:)

Sell it back, no jk. I can't think of many cars I would dislike to drive more than an automatic Dodge (but that is personal opinion) and you are right, a dollar is a freaking dollar....you can't even get a slurpee for that anymore, so congratulations. Take advantage and save up money. Many people your age really fail to do so unfortunantly.

Nice find. My first car was $100 and it was worse than that (depending on who are). And my guess would be if you did the turbo conversion from the SRT-4 is that you would also have to gett a manual tranny. I couldn't say for sure but I wouldn't think a stock Neon ATX is strong enough.

You bought it for less than a gallon of gas.

Doesn't matter what car it is, that's a steal.

Good Jorb!

Pretty good first car for only $1 especially with such low miles. Those Neons with the 2.4 have 150 hp so it'll be somewhat quick...not like my car:shakehead

wow good deal.. make sure you drive over to your grandpas now and help him out and shovel his snow and all that stuff-- lol

i would buy ANY car for $1 no matter what damage or messed up or anything- (as long as i dont have to pay for shipping/trailer or w.e if it didnt run) but seriously a $1 is a steal -
