AdvanceAutoParts or AutoZone?citizen@large 08-03-2006, 01:36 PM I'm new to Jeeps and to this forum- So, Hi! I've been poking around here for a week or so now, and think that I've gotten a pretty good idea of where to begin troubleshooting the many repair issues of my newly acuired '89 4.0l i6 Cherokee.(Yes, it runs, but not very well...:frown: But hey, it was FREE!:grinyes:) Thanks for all of the great posts people! I've been put on 'The Path'... So here's my question- When you very knowledgeable Jeepers go to replace one of the many sensors, (MAP, CPS, O2, TPS, etc...[or any non-high performance off-roading type parts,]), do you run out to Advance, AutoZone, the scapyard, or is there some other preffered method to getting quality Jeep parts at tight-budget or reasonable prices? Saudade 08-03-2006, 02:51 PM My answer is "all of the above". It depends on what I'm looking for. I have AZ (2 of them), Pep Boys (2 of them), and a Kragen autoparts stores within a few minutes (10 at most) of my home. The nearest Napa is 20 minutes. Prices vary (as well as stock) so check around. fredjacksonsan 08-05-2006, 09:11 AM I've heard of people having trouble with crank- or camshaft position sensors from the aftermarket, so would recommend going to the dealer for those. It's about a $30 difference in parts, but well worth it to save having to do the repair again later... Saudade 08-05-2006, 11:02 AM I've read them too. I got my CPS at AZ over 2 years ago. No problems. citizen@large 08-05-2006, 11:13 AM Nice catch on the CPS advice there Fred, I happen to be on that step today... Thanks. fredjacksonsan 08-06-2006, 07:58 AM I've read them too. I got my CPS at AZ over 2 years ago. No problems. I guess it's hit or miss on the aftermarket then.... :dunno: Maybe I should have saved the $30?? vamc 08-06-2006, 08:50 PM I live here in Ohio and i think autozone and advanced autoparts is pritty good. i have not been to a scrap yard in a while for parts, but its what works for you. papacan 08-08-2006, 12:10 PM I agree with the above,my 90'was also free,so buy you a digital multimeter (20.oo) & check your sensors before buying,AutoZone has a good site for instructions on "HOW TO" it saves time & money & is very easy to do! O' WELCOME ABOARD! CARL AlohaBra 08-08-2006, 11:32 PM My 2 cents: I go between Kragen, a parts store for independent shops and the dealer. Sometime the dealer is cheaper..period. I tell them I am from Nova Automotive and get the wholesale price, just say cash and tax please. (Real businesses pay sales tax quarterly to the state.) PS..I get OEM parts and such off of the net. Dealers will sell at a discount and out of state dealers do not charge sales tax. I just got a front tow hitch from JC Whitney with free shipping (plus $7 for oversize). wwwildman 08-17-2006, 10:11 PM It really dependsw on the part and how quick you need it. I use mostly Advanced, since they are in my town and the others are more than 15 miles away. AZ seems to have the same parts but at a little bit better price. Some parts you can only get at the dealer, and then it is best to take your VIN with you to make sure you get the correct part. So far I have replaced two CPS and two cam sensors for my three Jeeps. Got all of them from Advanced...their still going great. MT-2500 08-17-2006, 10:33 PM It really dependsw on the part and how quick you need it. Even in the good old years when we had some good quality aftermarket parts places before the cheap or cheaper parts places came along. You usually get what you pay for. But MT says dealer OEM parts only hurt one time. That el cheap aftermarket stuff will bite you in the rear many times. And on a lot of things the dealer stuff is as cheap or sometimes cheaper than after market MT vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
