My e150 is trying to turn over when I try to start it, but the engine isn't getting any gas. Plenty of gas in the tank. The butterfly looks like it is mostly closed (it's not totally horizontal, which is what I'm used to, but it appears to be in the closed position).

Basically makes a sound like dying cow when I try to start it. Usually pumping the gas repeatedly will get the engine going, but not today, so I suppose it's time to fix it.

This car typically sits for up to a week or more at a time -- mostly once I get it started once, it'll fire up a lot quicker the next time.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Your choke must be disajusted, with engine cold your butterfly must be open 1/8 inch if not engine wont strat no air! to ajust butterfly you have to find the thrmostatic unit theres is an looking screw to ajust tension of the butterfly. take a drill bit 1/8 inch and put it between the butterfly and the corps of the carburator look the bolt until it seats on the drill bit. remove the bit and try to start the engine it should work

ohhhhh.. let me go check right now and confirm that it's all the way closed.

huh. well, even when i flip it up and try to start it, it's doing the same thing. Should I test the spark? Fuel pump? I'll go look at my chiltons.

next step you need to know if theres a spark so get a helper and check spark by unsrew spark plug from cylinder one and hold it on engine block and start engine and see if you have blue spark if dont you have a bad coil or burn rotor
if spark present you must check fuel pump I guess you have mechanical pump detach line from carburator insert in a jar and crank engine to see if gas comes out, if gas comes out and spark present i assume the needle under the float in the carburator is stuck or dirty
