Started my 86 cressy this morning and it had a bad tapping coming from the Head, besides the tap the motor runs ok. I mean its not missing or running funny, it reminds me of when a lifter collapse. is that possible? the car has sat all weekend and I thought maybe low oil pressure but I let it run for awhile and it never went away. this car has been a tropper it passes smog, runs good, everything works even the A/C but not sure if its worth putting alot of $$$ into it I only paid $500 for the car a year ago. any suggestions
would be appreciated.

THANKS
GARY

Do you have adjustable valves?

I just found out that I have hydrolic lifters, and I found that the second intake from the front of the motor is collapsed, so now how easy/hard is it to change? Does anyone have a step by step on changing the dang things?
It looks like the cam will have to be removed also the timing belt and the distributor any other parts that need special attention or tools to remove and replace the lifter.

thanks

yes the cams and all related componenets will have to be reomoved and its not an easy job. best bet take it to a shop and have them do them all(as another may collaps on your next start up)

If you can do timing belts it isn't a real bad job. You have to remove the belt distributor, use white out and mark where the rotor meets the base. Only do this after the engine is on top dead center. Remove the distributor, valve cover and cam shaft the lifter will then come out. Make certain you have identified it before starting.
