Last night comming home from work a guy in a black 4.6 GT started messing with me. I got off the highway and he followed me, first light he was behind me so I gave it a good run to the nextlight hoping he would do the same and end up side by side.

I tell him if he wants to go, he says yes. Light goes green and I punch it but i forgot to take off the TC and the car sorta bogs, by the time the rpms pick back up he had a 2 1/2 car lead. :banghead:
so I shift into 2nd and Im now right on his tail, I granny shift to 3rd cause of the problem with my shifter and end up side by side, by the top of third I had walked him a half car. By 4th I was only a car ahead.
My trap speed is about 100 so I guess I won cause I was at 97 when we shut down.

So I guess I did bend some pushrods last time I went to the track cause I should of murdered him and I barely made it out. :disappoin  :frown:

Musashi...keep it up, and I'm taking the goat away from you. No 4.6 should ever return home with "i almost killed a GTO" story. No in all seriousness I blame the French queer who sat on your hood for this.

^lol, that is a usable excuse. the scratch just threw the car out'a whack.

What year GT? If it was a new one, and he was a good driver, combined with your bogging and having to play catch up, the outcome is very possible, especially stopping at around 100. He could have been modded too

Musashi3000GT
07-31-2006, 05:31 PM
it was either a 96 or 97
I threw a bad shift the other night at the track, probably bent a few PRs so thats why the car is running like crapola!

Good kill. Did you ever rev your motor? It's hard to bend a pushrod. Get it to the dealership, and they should repair it for free. Make sure not to tell them that you've been racing it.

lol, i did that the first time i ever drove and raced my dads vette

at the street races a camaro ss wanted to race me
we line up and take off and he killed me by about 3 car lengths, not realizing my tc was on

Haha, no doubt.

"Sir, any clue how this might of happened?"

"Yeah, I thought it'd be cool to drive on the freeway in 1st gear only. You know, be like those guys in Hondas you see... always in one or two gears lower than they need to be with their loud exhausts... Yeah, I couldn't afford the payments of the Civic, so I got the GTO... man, I sure wish I hadn't... I really would like to have Vtec.:frown:"

you recently went to the track.....whats your e.t.......did you say you trap 100mph....

2000LS1Z28
07-31-2006, 11:55 PM
He ran 14.9 sec. at 9X mph. That's well within 99+ GT Mustangs times, or a well modded 96+ model.

you recently went to the track.....whats your e.t.......did you say you trap 100mph....
yeah this past wednesday.
My trap was 100.29 mph with a bad launch
with the good one was the misshift and that ended up being 93.56 mph

Actually I ran a 14.801 last time with misshift and all!
I think I got the hang of the launch but the mis-shift killed me. :banghead:

It was funny cause the run was against an SRT-4 and he bogged the launch too. He ended up passing me but still ran a slower time. :icon16:

also I took some video and ran it side by side with a chronometer. Im loosing a good second to second and a half on launch. So thats why the high 14s! :disappoin
and wouldnt you know it when I land the solid take off I end up bombing the shift! Im a looser.

hey maybe I can get "fastest car with slowets time" award?

I feel bad enough fellas, thanx! :shakehead

What the hell do you guys expect?!?!
I went from a 220 hp FWD to a 400 HP RWD!
it really takes some getting used to. on top of that the tires on the GTO are pure crap! I spend a good portion of the run just spinning them mofos!

Ive never been good at drag racing though, thats why I got into Auto X. Even with my Talon AWD I would mess up the launch!
My best friend was the one who cut the 11.89 1/4 in that car cause I sure as heck couldnt.

Im not making excusses, I know I cant drive.....er....launch.
But damn it im trying! i nearly tore the tranny trying to get better times for you guys! You think I go to the track to run cause I like drag racing?
No I do it so I can save some face in front of you guys!
I will fix her and I will do better an Im going to do it stock!
no mods till I cut 13.7 or better.

Musashi is a man of honor, victory or harakiri!

GTO!....?

Hey sorry man. I understand. With some more practice, you'll be tearin' up the drag strip.

GForce957
08-01-2006, 01:21 PM
Well you said your mostly having problems on launching right, not shifting. It seems like your time should be off, like it is, but not your trap speed.

Musashi3000GT
08-01-2006, 01:39 PM
yeah, when you bog the launch your rpms end up climbing way slower so you end up out 80 feet and your just now getting into the power band. by the time you hit 100 mph youve ran out of track.

When I spin I have to let go of the gas and hammer it again or tap it on and off cause I dont have good throttle control...again I end up 70-80 feet out and still goofing off. so yes I do loose track space and thats what kills my trap speed.

savi?

sounds like you need a good pair of drag radials so you can focus more on shifting and less on the launch. also when do you go WOT? i havn't run my car at the track (yet) but i've heard that the best time to start launching is at the 3rd yellow light right before it turns green. i've never actually tried it, but it seems like the pre-anticipation would probably help your e.t. i talked to a guy who used to run an old charger and he said you should shoot for .5 e.t.'s

You won't have a problem at the track, seeing as to how your car is an automatic.

Mushashi I just got word from Danno that he ran a 14.2 sec. 1/4 mile at 102mph w/ a 2.2 sec. 60' w/ his bone stock 05 LS2 GTO in 103 degrees temperature, and at altitude (1300 ft.). Time to keep practicing. Danno's ahead of you. You can't let this happen (On a side note, congrats Danno :D ).

well if your bracket racing then lauching at the third yellow is good...but still isnt going to help his 60fts......

doh, im no where close to u even if u did mess up on the launch runnin basically a 15. well, i could do the scc thing and get rid of everything on my car for weight. just tell them that u were driving and ended driving over a sand covered road. the tcs was off and it just broke traction. that should work.

Oooof. So when you hit first (which you must have absolutely slammed it in order to get it back in first) did it just revv past the tach or did the tires just lock up? I know when I was learning on my 97 Ram to drive a stick, I went from 5th to 2nd (instead of 4th) and all that happend was the tires squealed a bit. Although, when you hit first your probably went WOT on it at the same time. I shutter to think of the sound it made. Hope things start looking up.

negatory, a big guy around here ran a 15.9 in his 12 second capable rx7 so he had you beat on 2 ends of tha tone. and i kno 12 seconds b/c EVENTUALLY he ran a 12 and he very slowly pulled away from my friend's 12 second dsm from a roll.

yes traction is a BIG deal

Yeah...a 15.9 at 110. I thought he ran the 15.9 so he wouldn't get kicked off the track for not having the safety stuff?

Bah, your times will get better. I knew I was telling you and Gotian to get track times, knowing that you wouldn't run that well. It's something you learn. Heck, my first drag time in my former Z28, I only ran a 14.0 sec. 1/4 mile at 102mph (At LACR ~ elevation 2700ft.). People said I sucked on the boards.

Heck, I have my own icon on another board. They all claim I ran a 14 sec. 1/4 mile in my former Z28 on nitrous, when I had a vid of me running a 13.1 sec. pass at 111mph at LACR. The time I ran a 14 sec. pass I almost hit a retaining wall going sideways at 70mph, cause the car wouldn't grip. Luckily I corrected it before going into the other guys lane, or the wall for that matter.

It just takes practice. I think alot of guys on here would be surprised if they ran their car at the track. I've seen ZR1 Corvettes running 15 sec. passes at Speedway, and a 13 sec. 2004 Dodge Viper. The car is only half the equation.
