What car should I get a 96 civic or a 02 cavalier? 1carman jon19 07-29-2006, 09:24 PM
I am 17 and looking for a good reliable car and a car that I can fix up with aftermarket lights and air intake and things like that. I’m looking at a 1996 Honda civic 4dr LX green with 179,000km for $5500 Canadian or a 2002 Chevy cavalier blue 4dr with 88,00km for $5900 Canadian. Which car do you think would be the best car for me and which car would have the most power even thought both cars don’t have a lot of power to start with. I would probably put $2000 in a car for aftermarket parts, so what car would be the best to buy aftermarket stuff for.:iceslolan Lances133 07-29-2006, 09:28 PM I would get the Cavalier simply because it's alot newer and has less Km's on it. And you can fix them up really nice. JStumpalump150 07-29-2006, 11:40 PM well, i might be a little bias since i own a cavy but i think the cavy is a better way to go IMO MrR0b0t0 07-29-2006, 11:58 PM yeaa, pretty much not a contest betweena 10 year old car and a 4 year old. Especially if your planning on tuning and what not. Young Chuck D 07-30-2006, 01:35 AM "is that a serious question?" Thor06 07-30-2006, 01:37 AM Hondas go forever though. Is the 02 and ecotec? I would say the Cavalier either way, but that 2.2 OHV is worthless for speed. Yeah, Cavalier FTW. jakegday 07-30-2006, 02:16 AM yes its an ecotec, and a hell of alot newer with a hell of alot less miles for only $400 more?? of course thats the way to go 03cavPA 07-30-2006, 07:31 AM Go with the cav. Much newer, fewer miles, more up to date on the electronics. The japanese cars may "run forever", but it has twice the mileage the cav does, and it's more than twice as old. Too many "riced-out" Hondas on the road already. No-brainer in my book, especially for the ecotec. If ya want import, that engine is Opel designed and the development work was done by Lotus. my99cavy 07-30-2006, 03:09 PM i would def go with the cavy. its newer, less miles, and its american. lol not trying to diss on civics my first car was a 95 civic. but anyway go with the cavalier. or even better find a 2 door cavy and go with that. IMO the 2doors look a helluva lot better. JStumpalump150 07-31-2006, 07:39 AM and the 4 doors have the support beam right at the side of your face so it is harder to see out the side window CavLCD128 07-31-2006, 05:28 PM get the civic as long as the frame and all look good...and drop in a new engine...mabye an Integra GSR engine or something like that, and you will start off with about 50 more WHP then the cavalier. if you are really looking for good HP then the civic is obvioulsy a much better platform, but if you just want a car you can put an exhaust and CAI on then go for the cavalier. Lances133 07-31-2006, 05:42 PM get the civic as long as the frame and all look good...and drop in a new engine...mabye an Integra GSR engine or something like that, and you will start off with about 50 more WHP then the cavalier. if you are really looking for good HP then the civic is obvioulsy a much better platform, but if you just want a car you can put an exhaust and CAI on then go for the cavalier. Ahh...yea. No offense to him but I don't think he's capable.... I am 17 and looking for a good reliable car and a car that I can fix up with aftermarket lights and air intake and things like that. my99cavy 07-31-2006, 05:49 PM ^ lol note how 1carman jon19 said he wants a car that he can ''fix up with lights and intake and things like that'' so i think doing an engine swap is kinda out of the question for him at this point. cavlcd- dont get me wrong that is a good idea though for that kind of swap. :) indyextremecustoms 08-11-2006, 11:52 PM i would go the ecotec route cause i own a 98 civic 4 lx. it sucks....it has a 1.6l single overhead cam and is 106 hp stock.slower then shit....im barely getting 140 now and thats after everything ive had to do to it to get it there.. my cavi is an 03 and has almost the same amount of mods and will smoke my civic anyday...but if you planed on doing a motor swap to a B18a out of a GSR then thats a great car but be prepared to dump alot of money into gettin g it swapped... indyextremecustoms 08-11-2006, 11:53 PM oh and the ecotec is 140 hp stock...big difference to the civic.. PsychoJJ 08-12-2006, 12:15 AM Dont forget though gang, the first half of the 02 production run had the really great go-kart motors and then the rest of the run had the eco and as we all know that is a huge difference. indyextremecustoms 08-12-2006, 12:42 AM thats right they didnt offer the ecotecs till late august early september wasnt it... BabyCavyZ 08-12-2006, 01:45 AM but yea the cav is a lot sweeter but ur messin wit the sedan man find a coupe the look soo much nicer just stock and especially tricked out and wen u say that the GSR motor has 50 more hp then the cav ur talkin bout the base or the z24?? PsychoJJ 08-12-2006, 02:07 AM Aint one damn thing wrong with a sedan. Granted Im bias but thats not the point. indyextremecustoms 08-12-2006, 02:08 AM lol BabyCavyZ 08-12-2006, 12:13 PM did i say there was???? noooooo i dun think so i juss said coupes look better i would say IMO but it doesn't seem to matter on here cause people like you get offended either way indyextremecustoms 08-12-2006, 02:12 PM wow....2 door or four door...the battle rages on... yul125 09-03-2006, 08:33 PM hi someone has mention that the ecotec engine his from opel in europe and was work out by lotus and more on it Lances133 09-03-2006, 09:04 PM :eek7: huh?
