98 Caravan rear brake lights stay if Headlights are onMbriggs 07-29-2006, 01:33 PM OK I'm stumped, why would the brake lights stay on whenever the headlights are turned on. I yelled at my son for riding the brakes while I was following him, only to find that there is a problem. I checked all the fuses and all seem ok. Any ideas? Thanks earlyrizr 07-29-2006, 02:35 PM shorted wire to the braking circuit maybe.did you have any electrical work done lately?and are the bulbs in the back making a good contact in the socket or is corrosion build up noticeable? RIP 07-29-2006, 04:10 PM Looking at a skimpy Haynes schematic, if the brake light switch on the pedal was stuck closed you'd have brake lights all the time even with the key off and your cruise wouldn't engage. The only other power source in the neighborhood is from the combination flasher via the dreaded Body Control Module (BCM) to the turn sig lights. Somehow it is powering the brake lights. :dunno: :screwy: > The BCM can be reset by pulling the IOD fuse for 30 sec. Sometimes BCMs get confused and need a kick to wake up. > As stated look over the light sockets and make sure you don't have a massive corrosion problem going on. > Tap on/wiggle the components mentioned including the Junction Block under the dash. They are both mounted on it. >Try reseating or changing the combination flasher. Could be something going on internally. Yelling at someone when they aren't the cause - been there. Appologizing and getting them involved in the fix - priceless. Mbriggs 07-30-2006, 01:58 PM OK. Here's where I'm at. Checked all the bulbs, pulled the IOD fuse for 30 sec., reset the relays, and wiggled the junction box. Still no go. Another issue, maybe related. When the headlights are off, and the brakes are applied, the display on the radio dims. All other displays, such as the odometer, do not dim. When headlights are on, displays are fine, just the rear brake lights are always on. Any other ideas? THANKS!:banghead: RIP 07-31-2006, 05:12 PM vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
