OK I'm stumped, why would the brake lights stay on whenever the headlights are turned on. I yelled at my son for riding the brakes while I was following him, only to find that there is a problem. I checked all the fuses and all seem ok. Any ideas?

shorted wire to the braking circuit maybe.did you have any electrical work done lately?and are the bulbs in the back making a good contact in the socket or is corrosion build up noticeable?

Looking at a skimpy Haynes schematic, if the brake light switch on the pedal was stuck closed you'd have brake lights all the time even with the key off and your cruise wouldn't engage. The only other power source in the neighborhood is from the combination flasher via the dreaded Body Control Module (BCM) to the turn sig lights. Somehow it is powering the brake lights. :dunno: :screwy:

Yelling at someone when they aren't the cause - been there. Appologizing and getting them involved in the fix - priceless.

OK. Here's where I'm at. Checked all the bulbs, pulled the IOD fuse for 30 sec., reset the relays, and wiggled the junction box. Still no go.
Another issue, maybe related. When the headlights are off, and the brakes are applied, the display on the radio dims. All other displays, such as the odometer, do not dim. When headlights are on, displays are fine, just the rear brake lights are always on.

Any other ideas?
