Yes, cabriolet means convertable!

Carrera is spanish for "Race"

I think Porsche originally garnered the moniker from the Carrera Pan Americana...

Thats exactly it.

Targa is for the legendary Sicilian road race the Targa Florio one of the greatest automotive challenges ever. Porsche was extremely successful there, often embarassing its rivals Ferrari and Alfa Romeo so it called one of its 911 variants after it, hence the 911 Targa.

Heres a link to the Targa Florio's website, i havent visited it myself (ps its in italian but there may be some pics of the road)

I was putting together a 968 project, but I'm out of capital right now. That's being put off for a couple years :(

Right now I'm working on a 931, which I'm picking up some time in the next few weeks... I'm having trouble with importing it here, and exporting it from there.

My baby!http://members.rennlist.com/924martinirossi/Silver80.htm

My other project is putting a Ford 6.6 liter V8 in this!

Hey did Porsche win the 1969 Targa Florio?

I'm thinking that was when they used the 908/3 (Look it up it is an awesome car), and they mentioned how it could outbrake, out handle and overall outdrive the faster Ferraris. They failed to mention if it won though, He just said that it would catch up then fall behind, catch up then fall behind.

and BTW, for anybody who's wondering, I believe that any RS Porsches stand for Renn Sport, which I think is Something Race in German. Shame on me for forgetting.

BTW, what does 'Boxster' mean?

The 908's cleaned up at the '69 Targa Florio:
The Porsche 908's came 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, followed by an Alfa something or other, and then another 2 Porsches, this time 907's :D

RS is indeed Renn Sport, which means Racing Sport, or Sport Racing if you flip the words around... couldnt figure out what "sport" translated into? :p

Boxster doesnt mean anything :licker:

Well, the 931 was bought out from under me  but it broke down on the way back to the guys house :p , so it's not that bad...

I've now got a 79 NA 924, with a generous interest free car loan from my parents... It has some performance work done, with 11:1 compression, a nice set of wheels... I have a turbo engine waiting for me about 600km away, I just have to pick it up in 2 months :D

I'm going to rebuild the turbo engine with 9:1 compression pistons and EFI, with a Saab boost controller with knock sensor. I'm giving the turbo to my brother for his 931, and using a T25 ball bearing turbo for mine. I figure I should have about 250hp, with peak torque of about 250ftlbs at around 2500rpm. Nothing too powerful, it's my daily driver(as soon as I get new seats, fix the tranny, weld up a hole in the battery box and put insurance on the thing ;) ).

The RX7 is my weekend beast, and I'm also making plans for a mid engined Honda Del Sol (CRX in Europe).

The boxster was given the name by porsche because of the way the horizontally opposed engine is set up. The pistons look as if they are boxing each other.

Yep... Boxster = boxer + speedster.

Thread must die now :)
