Your abs system is detecting a fault and it sets off the light to let the driver know they system needs service. The first step in turning off the light is scanning the system to find out what the trouble code is. Without the trouble code, there isn't much you can do. One thing I do when I don't have access to a scanner, especially on econolines, is take a resistance reading across the two terminals for the rear speed sensor located in the axle housing. This sensor is notorious for going bad. If you read open circuit across the terminals, replace it. The range for a good sensor resistancewise is pretty big but an open is always bad. Some people just replace the rear sensor before paying to have it scanned because it's cheap and a real, real common issue. Good luck with it!

I have a 1994 econoline e150. It also has the ABS light turn one after a few miles of driving. I also changed the speed sensor from the rear axle housing. Now the speedometer fluctuates up and down when the speedometer reaches around 45 mph to around 50 mph. What gives? I was told that my van also has a speedometer sensor in the tranny? Is that true? If so, should I also change that one?
