WHAT MPG should I expect?

I have a 1998 Toyota Camry LE V6 with 119,000 miles on the engine. The car has been driven extremely carefully and has all the maintainance records. By the may i got this car a couple of days ago. My question is that if I use the recommended 5W-30 oil and drive nicely:evillol: what mpg should I expect?

Like all camrys your average mileage should be 32. But since you have a V6, the mileage you should expect is 30 mpg or higher.

My 1995 has 206,000 on the ODO and I just made a trip to FLA and kept it undr 70 and still got 35 mpg. It is a 4 cylinder though.

Good grief, hassanbigboss, you didn't even wait FOUR HOURS before making that comment. What do you think? That we're all sitting here hitting refresh, waiting for the next post?

35 for a 4 cyl is pretty good. I get 30, and a large amount of my driving is highway.

hassanbigboss, why don't you come back after a couple of tankfulls (carefully recorded) and tell us what you get? (I'm prepared to wait more than 4 hours).

kept it undr 70 That's a major key. Fuel consumption skyrockets when you get to higher speeds. 60 mph uses way less gas than 80 mph.

That's and keeping your windows up. You actually save more gas when you have the A/C on than having the windows down. Having windows down drags the car down, forcing the engine to work harder to keep the car going at the constant speed.

My average mpg for my Gen 5.5 Camry (2005-2006) is 38 mpg. The most mileage I got from a full tank was 480 miles. The lowest was 320 miles. My average miles on a full tank is 360 miles.

AccordCodger I am sorry and I apologize to everyone I did not mean it like that. Lets just take that as a joke and forget about it:wink: I know that people do not have time to spend on the forums all the time and I should have considered that before saying some nonsense like that:frown: . My apology goes to everyone who reads this topic. Alright, as for the MPG I will record the mileage and report back. Thank you everyone for everything. You guys have a great weekend.

PS. AccordCodger do you have a V6 or a I4?

Mine is a 1999 4-cyl. Maybe the later gens are more economical.

By the way, I don't calculate based on how many miles "per tankful." That's not very accurate because you're relying on the gas gauge. The best way is to fill up to the brim and write the mileage down. Then drive 300-400 miles and fill it up again to the brim. Subtract the miles one from the other and divide by the amount of gas (to the nearest 1/10th gal) on that second fillup.

P.S. apology accepted :)

AccordCodger I measuer my MPG the same way as you do. I do not take credit for this way of measuring gas because I picked this trick or procedure from these forums. Thanks for accepting my apology.

Depends on the driving. On that car with that engine, if it's in good shape 25mpg average would be about right.

I drove for 150 miles today and used about 4 1/2 - 5 gallons of gas. But I was doing like 70-75 miles per hour so that takes some hit on the MPG also. I had 4 people in my car with the AC on too. I think this is okay though. I just need to change the oil to Mobil 1 perhaps this might help a little bit more.
