do you have a remote starter installed?

First, locate the starter relay so you will know where it is for the next time this happens. Then when it does, quickly go out and tap the relay. If the starter disengages, then you have found the problem. Go out and replace the relay. If this isn't the problem, then the next thing to check would be the starter bendix drive itself. Locate the starter. Then have a small hammer or wrench handy for the next time this happens. When it does, go tap the starter itself. If the starter now disengages, the starter's bendix drive is sticking in it's outward/engaged position. Best to replace the starter.

where's the relay usually located?

OK then it's either the starter relay (located in engine bay fuse block, ck manual for which one) and you can just swap that relay with a simular one that's next to it to test. The other 2 possibilities are bad starter or bad ignition switch.
