1996 Camry TDS Problem

Hi,
I replaced the battery in our 96 Camry. When I opened the drivers door, the horn went crazy and the car would not start. Toyota told me that the car has a Theft Deterrent System and to just press the keyless entry button. Problem is, when we bought the car, it did not come with the keyless button, nor were we told it was supposed to have one.

How do I disconnect the TDS or is it possible to give the VIN number to Toyota hand have a keyless button programmed?

Follow Up:

I called Toyota directly and was told that this model does not have a factory TDS.

Here is the next question. I want to disable the TDS out...what do I look for? A fuse? A certain wire coming from the ignition? A wire from the positive side of the battery cable?

Thanx!!!!!!!

Try this:

Disconnet the negative of battery, then Insert the key (for starting the engine), keep the driver side door open, and connect the battery, turn the key to start the engine.

Can you find a swith on the left of the brake pedal? If yes, and it still dosn't work, then just switch the swicth and try again.

I looked and did see a "button" or something near the floorboard to the left of the brake. All it did was turn either left or right. There is a red light just to the left of the steering column and a toggle switch embedded near the door. Would this be the TDS by chance?

It was pouring rain so I did not have a chance to try what you suggested with the battery. I will try this tonight.

-Thanks!!!!!

Not sure the "button" and in my car it is a toggle swith under the very
far left side under the dashboard against the left side of the car and it can turn on/off the alarm system. The red light is the indictor of the active of the alarm system, but it will not turn off immediately after you turn off the alarm systmem. Whenever you want to re-connect the battery, you have to turn on the alarm system first and try what I suggested.

Just wanted to let you know that your suggestion worked. Thank you very much!!!!

Also, you stated that the toggle switch turns the system on and off. While the engine was running, I moved the switch to one side. When I moved it back, the red light came on. I guess it is a no brainer that the switch should be in the off position.

Thank you very much for your responses and your time!!!!
