Rotor Replacement

Hi Guys!

I'm having trouble taking my rotors off, both front and the back. I took off the caliper, and tried knocking the rotor around but it still won't move. I don't see any bolts thats holding it in place, and the Clichton service manual doesn't say anything about any bolds holding it in place.

What do I need to do to get it off?
(I remember the front rotors on my 94, Sentra slides right off)

Please advise.

Honestly, I forget!!!! I had a bit of trouble with both my fronts and backs... I'll go tear my car apart tomorrow after it gets inspected and I'll tell ya if there's any tricks to it. :)

I just replaced my pads and rotors last week. My dad and I had a rotor that wouldn't come off. He tried knocking it off with a lead hammer, but that didn't work. Are there bolt holes near the center of the rotor (NOT the lug holes). My replacement rotors don't have these holes, but the originals did (two extra holes)... my dad tried screwing a bolt through the rotor through one of these holes, in effect pushing the rotor off. This is what did the trick for us.

Good luck.

Evan

maxx_94_G20t,

Yah, i know those two little holes ur talking about. I ran all over town trying to find screws/bolts that will fit the holes, but couldn't find any. Where did u get the bolt? The only place that i haven't looked is Home Depot. I even called the local dealership asking if they would have them, but the guy told me no, and he doesn't know what i'm talking about.

Where can i find those botls?

Well, my car failed inspection, so I haven't yet had a chance to tear it apart to fix the part...

I have to take off one wheel that I know of, and I can try to take a look then at what is up... Sorry for the delay. :o

Oh... I didn't think so much about where you'd get those bolts. My dad has quite a workshop and luckily had one that would fit lying around. I can't remember now (maybe it was 10 or 14 mm)--I'd suggest stopping by a hardware store and buying some metric bolts to try on it, it wasn't anything special.

just change all 4 of them on mine last wk. u use 10mm botls for the front and 8mm for the rear one.

the rotors are taper-fit. In other words, the bolts only secure the taper - they don't hold it on. Once the taper locks, it's a real bitch to get them off. Rotors tend, however, not to lock due to heat expansion, but the still do and can. I've changed about a dozen and only one has ever locked.

The professional way to break a taper is to use a puller. These are generally application-specific, however. Plenty of WD40, a rubber mallet and an hour or two banging should do the trick. Just remember to give the taper a wire-brush-up before refitting the new ones.
