Flash Lights for Lock Confirmation - BCM 4

Hi Folks,

I have a 2001 Venture with BCM 3 & a silly question that I hope someone knows the answer to:

What is the difference, if any, between BCM (Body Control Module) 3 & 4?

From what I have read, BCM 4 is needed for the Vehicle Theft Deterrent and the Content Theft Deterrent (Alarm) systems. But it can also be programmed to flash the lights and beep the horn when the van is locked (as a "confirmation" that the locking took place).

This lock confirmation is all I really want to add to my van. Has anyone attempted this before?

Another question: Does anyone have a van that flashes the lights to confirm that it is locked?

Thanks for any input!

Take Care,

Hi Everyone,

I decided to do the upgrade to BCM 4, and acquired one from eBay.
While waiting for it to arrive, I did a little research & poking around. Here is what I discovered:
- BCM 4 is needed for the internal Alarm system to work.
- Alarm system also needs a "Shock Sensor" & a "Theft Deterrent" module.
- Extra cabling is needed between the BCM, Daylight Running Light (DRL) module, and the horn system.

This entire package is what I believe is called the "RPO UA6" option.

Since all I am really interested in is the "Lock/Unlock Confirmation", I looked at the connectors of the current BCM and the DRL. I discovered the following:
- No wire at the BCM connector for flashing the lights (Pin D11 to DRL).
- No wire at the BCM connector for honking the horn (Pin D10 to horn control circuit).
- No wire at the DRL connector for flashing the lights (Pin D of Connector 1).

So to make this happen, I will have to add at least two wires, one to make the lights flash, and one to honk the horn.

I DID install the BCM 4 when it arrived. The good news is that it came with the old connectors still installed and the wires cut off at about 3 inches. So I may be able to use some of the contact pins & wires to make the new connections.

I programmed the new BCM to match the old one, plus to have the lights flash and the horn sound when the van is locked & unlocked (once the wiring is there).

Once I make progress on this project, I will post the story.

We've got some werid aftermarket alarm on ours...K9 Alarm I belive is the name
Wonder how hard it would be to go back to stock

and that
Theft Deterrent thing, reminds me of that Sprint commercial
where the guy throws the phone at his friend when he goes for his wallet

only it would be much funnier is it was a HUGE VAN :p

I was successful in upgrading the BCM. If interested, you can read about it at the link below.

Greg A. On my 2002 van, when I lock with the remote, the lights dont flash and horn dont blow on the first press but it is locked. The second press will make the lights and horn work. You probably Know that because I have seen many of your comments and you seem very knowledgable about the venture.
