Better Filtration or More Air? K&NBeZerK2112 07-21-2006, 12:25 PM Time for the installation of the new cold air intake. Only problem is I have no clue what type of air filter to put on the thing. I hear so many good and bad things the K&N I dont know what to think anymore. I've had one in the past and loved it. Is there something better then K&N for the price? Something with good filtration and tons of air flow? Send Links, Specs, and opinions! Igovert500 07-21-2006, 12:30 PM I've never heard a bad thing about K&N in my life, and if I did I would certainly want some evidence to back it up. As far as I'm concerned it's the best aftermarket filter you can get. 00accord44 07-21-2006, 12:37 PM ^ Me too. What bad have you heard? Or are you talking about the bypass valve stories? I don't think K&N even makes bypass valves. So if the valve is what's got you mixed up, they're two separate things. As far as the filters go, I can't think of one brand I'd go with other than them. K&N = worth the extra :2cents: BeZerK2112 07-21-2006, 12:43 PM ^ Me too. What bad have you heard? Or are you talking about the bypass valve stories? I don't think K&N even makes bypass valves. Previously I did mine when ever I did my oil change. Polygon 07-21-2006, 12:47 PM I would say to stick with Apex-i or K&N. They have both been tested to give more HP and filter better. Avoid the HKS foam filters, while they will give you more power they don't filter worth a damn. 00accord44 07-21-2006, 12:54 PM What brand CAI did you buy? If its AEM, it already has K&N just with AEM logo on it MT-2500 07-21-2006, 01:07 PM I was reading another thread and all they did was talk bad about the K&N. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=592140 Things like how they skipped out on filtration to boost air flow so over time they will actually hurt your engine, especially if you dont keep up on the cleanings. Previously I did mine when ever I did my oil change. That post may have got carried away on things. But there is good and bad on it. Installation and proper service is one of the main things on them. Here is a link to some test done on air filters . home.usadatanet.net/~jbplock/ISO5011/SPICER.htm And here is one of my answers to that post. For your answer on cost wise Usually the answer in NO. You pretty well answered your own question in your first post. For a 100$ under normal driving you can by a good supply of OEM or OEM type paper filters that would last you 200K or more depending on driving conditions. K&N filters can be good filters But. K&N filters have a problem with the oil in them if not serviced often and right and installed right. You have to go easy on the oil and keep them cleaned and serviced often. If not you can stir up engine running problems and lower fuel mileage and cause engine wear. And yes the manufacture can void warranty. The Magnuson moss law gives you the right to use aftermarket parts if they do not affect vehicle. http://autopedia.com/html/HotLinks_LemonMM2.html Also under the 1990 clean air act section 203 it is on the borderline of being illegal. http://www.epa.gov/air/caa/caa203.txt BP2K2Max 07-21-2006, 01:09 PM IMO apexi filters are best. Maxima's have fragile Mass air sensors so stay away from wet type filters cuz they end up getting oil all over your MAFS. i went through 3 MAFS' before i just went back to the stock airbox. http://www.apexi-usa.com/product_suction_detail.asp?id=166&pageNum=1 vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
