1997 Cavalier making strange groaning noise

I have a 1997 cavalier coupe base(2.2l auto) with 14,580 miles(believe it or not).
I inspected my exhaust system today, and jacked the car up to do so. After lowering the car, I noticed that the car makes a strange groaning noise intermittently while driving, coming from the drivers side rear of the car. My driveway is sloped down to the street, and when I pull out of the driveway (with the front of the car facing the street), it does it. It also does it intermittently while driving, usually while making turns. However, it hasn't done it(that i've noticed) when going over a bump.
I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but the chassis hasn't been lubed since April of 2005, because the car hasn't had over 1,000 put on it since then. I did just change the oil in May of 06.
Any help would be sincerely appreciated.
Thank you very much in advance.

Rear strut mount is shot is one possibility, jack up that rear side of the car and see if you can move the wheel in any direction. Side to side, top to bottom. If there its play is your wheel bearing.

Thanks for all the help, but I actually found the problem myself. I had adjusted the bracket for the muffler, and when the back of the car bounced up and down while driving, the muffler was scraping up against the (I think axle, not sure what you call it)axle of the drivers side rear wheel. So I readjusted the muffler, and low and behold, the noise went away.
I was really NOT looking forward to any suspension problems. I dumped $1800 into the car when I got it, and money got kind of tight.....
It didn't have a radio, speakers, or antenna. It had wiring, but when my grandparents bought it new, they didn't want a radio.
I just started driving it, and I'm getting nervous about driving it so much, just because it rarely left the driveway before!
Thanks again for the help!

so they ordered it without a radio?? i didnt know that was an option, i wonder how much, if any, cheaper that made it, also, i woudlnt worry about driving "so much" it if it has only 15,000 miles
