96 Sunfire temp gauge moving up and down when driving? Infinitrium 07-19-2006, 11:56 PM
I bought myself a 96 2.2 5 speed Sunfire last week for 500 bucks. Yes it actually runs! It needs some body work on the driver's side down by the rocker panel and an inner tie rod and possibly a tranny mount, but for 500 bucks I think it's worth it. Anyway, I've noticed that when I'm driving it, I can notice the gauge go up and down very slightly, like maybe the width of the needle itself, how much it goes up then down by. When I bought the car, the guy told me he thinks the headgasket is starting to seep, although the coolant level hasn't gone down and the oil hasn't turned muddy brown yet. Since there aren't any numbers on the Sunfire's temp gauge I can't tell exactly how many degrees the temperature rises and falls by, but I'm willing to bet it's not much. What do you think about it? Does anyone have a pic of a Sunfire temp gauge they can put numbers on so I can get an idea how much my temperature rises by? jakegday 07-20-2006, 12:30 AM i cant help you with the pic, but i can tell you its nothing to worry about, mine bounces from 1/2 to 3/4 sometimes, unless it goes into the red, you're fine 94VL 07-21-2006, 12:40 PM My 94 does the same thing.Generally it runs very cool, but the gauge moves. chevyguy93 07-23-2006, 01:46 AM it sounds fine. mine did that once, turned out the thermostat was just giving way. i replaced it and its been fine. mike2004tct 07-23-2006, 09:44 AM it sounds fine. mine did that once, turned out the thermostat was just giving way. i replaced it and its been fine. I agree. Could be the T-stat, or you need to purge/bleed the system of air. Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
