So I went out and bought this...

2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 Extended Cab, 2WD with the 5.3L V8 and 4 speed auto.

And here it is with the Ultimate Shit Box...
http://www.bottomliner.com/silverado4.jpg

Ok, I'm tired... signing all that paperwork takes away all my energy... mainly cause of how much I just spent.

It drives nice... probably handles better than my old LS1 Z28.
I mean, the Z28 rode like a truck... at least now I have a truck to go with the truck feel.

ALRIGHT!

Something to tow the USB when it upgrades to v2.6...;)

So you gonna drive it to AZ so we can have the 4.7 against the 5.3? lol

-The Stig-
07-19-2006, 10:12 PM
Oh yes... then we'll do like in the commercials... We'll find mud holes to go bounce through and steep hills to tow our rediculously huge boats up.

So we can justify our manlyness...

God forbid somebody sees us driving to the grocery store in our V8 Guzzlers, or pulling our cars to the race track...:yikes:

Mr. Luos
07-19-2006, 10:24 PM
Can I borrow that???

Seriously?? Drive it here. Let me borrow it.
You can watch my dogs while I am gone.
When I get back with your truck, it will be empty too!!!!

No.

It'll serve mainly as occasional transportation long distances, or if I'm going out with friends. And to tow the Z.

For the time being, I'll keep driving the Z to work. Only a 6 mile commute... I work my ass off at work and get sweaty...so driving in a car with no A/C 20 minutes home doesn't bother me. Saves gas too, only costs me $30-35 (6-8 gallons) a week to fill up the Z.

Mr. Luos

It will be towing something if you let me borrow it. :iceslolan

Nice truck man!
Congrats!
I seriously need one for that weekend though. :icon16:

Wow sweet truck. I'm just curious as to why you bought it though. I'm assuming that you are planning big things for the 240Z since you mentioned hauling it around, but I dunno.

I'm also assuming that you sold the Nova. Hope you got a good deal on the truck. I'm gonna avoid purchasing any vehicles for a long time.

Looks like i'll have to stay content with the WS6 for a LONG TIME.

Oh, and I agree, F Bodies suck for handling stock. You really have to pump money into the suspension to make them decent.

-The Stig-
07-19-2006, 10:48 PM
Yeah, the Z will be getting a make over in both engine and bodywise. So when that finally happens it'll be nice to have a tow vehicle to take it around to various places.

And to drive while the Z is down...

And to tow the Z out to the desert for racing on the tracks, Willow Springs, Button Willow...and Arizona.

I don't think Matt's all that short. Last I recall he was like 5'7". He's real thin though.

I hope you're not making payments on the truck Matty, cause I remember how much you hated that. BTW how much did you get for the Nova?

I hope you're not making payments on the truck Matty, cause I remember how much you hated that.

Hah. The truck's nickname IS 'payments'. True story.

-The Stig-
07-20-2006, 01:43 AM
haha, yeah... I've started calling it "The Payment"

I still have the Nova, i'll be getting rid of it real soon. Need that money to help cover the cost of the truck.

And I got the truck for less than the Camaro... although, I didn't have as much to put down. so the payments are roughly the same. Bummer.

But insurance is insanely cheaper than the Camaro, and it uses 87 octane...so it's cheaper to drive overall and infinitely more comfortable.

Nice truck, Matt. I love the turtle green. I almost made an impulsive decision recently to buy a mighty max truck but after closer inspection to how cheaply made the thing was I wisely walked away. I must agree with everyone that Chevy makes a damn sweet truck... always have.

Yeah, I have to admit that my former 2K Z28 had a really uncomfortable interior. The WS6 is far more comfortable. I dunno why they made the seats so firm on the Z28's.

roughly 12 to 15 round trip. One end of town to the other...

I drove The Payment to the insurance broker today after work, he needed to take photos and give me my temp ID card. Man it's nice... the green is really soothing. I found myself listening to a Jazz station on the radio... cruising down the street. Good stuff.

Sweet truck Matty.

I just don't get why people arent giving you a ration of shit for buying this truck like they did when Arcie posted about his new Dodge. Wtf is that.

If you're going to boo Arcie for getting a mid-sized suv that's capable of off-roading and is going to be used mainly as a family hauling vehicle all the while getting the same or better mpg than this fine truck Matt just bought, then boo Matty too. Don't discriminate against Carrrnut only, you ignorant tree-hugging fucks.

While your at it, give me some shit for owning a massive 3/4 ton GMC with a 320 hp 6.0 liter powerplant and a 3.73 gearset that gets a whopping 15 highway mpg, and thats down-hill with a tailwind on 91 octane...on a good day. But make sure you do this while completely ignoring the fact that I only use this truck for work purposes while hauling 5,000 pound loads of construction material, or when I need to move some furniture or another large object around town.

Yes, ignore all of these and many more good reasons for owning a large "gas guzzling" vehicle and just bitch about that fact that we have them, because for some reason or another, you don't like it.

Hrm... 20-25? Depending on traffic... If I hit all the lights just right, I can make it 15 easy. It's all city driving... and if it's during the school year, school busses can ruin all traffic. I hate school busses.

Oh fuck no, if you're going to lecture me about using up all sorts of gas... then you're better off going out side and hugging your pet conifer cause I don't want to hear it.

Shush.

And no, I won't ride a bicycle, to get to my work I have to drive through a shitty part of town where people will randomly pull out in front of you and give you the finger like it's your fault. I've personally seen a guy dead on the street from being hit by a Semi-truck... I drove past just after it happened... it was not a pretty site to see. Here in California, it's illegal to ride a bicycle on the sidewalk, and you have to ride in the street. But to be honest I don't think it's enforced very strictly cause it's a stupid law. Even still, you can still be stopped for it.

And I also don't want to be mugged by some ghetto trash drug dealer lookin for some quick getaway wheels from the POOlice.

No thank you. The Z is pretty economical to drive, it's no Honda Civic, but it is 35 years old.

No shit huh, a ranger is a beast of a truck. It shouldnt have any issues at all with hauling 4,000lbs + loads in the bed while being able to retain safe braking abilities and handling charactaristics. Why didn't I think of it before. I'm going to get a Ford Ranger and save the world now. Thanks for setting me straight Stang.

Remember kids, if you're not driving an Eco-friendly Prius... you support TERRORISM!!

Now, I know pickup trucks aren't exactly the most economical vehicles around, but it's not like I'm going to lift it up 10" and add super huge off road tires... which suck up your mileage and it'd be useless cause mine is a 2WD truck (which isn't as bad as a 4WD model) And it's not like I'm going to throw 24" rims on my ride, which suck up your mileage.

I didn't buy a worthless Hummer H2 or H3 or an huge SUV. I'm a single male, with a few friends. I don't need a huge SUV to haul just me around. Most of my commuting will be done with the Z. It uses about 6-8 gallons of gas a week... regardless of gas price, that's not too bad for an old worn out car.

The truck is for weekends and going out. And I'll also be using it for work once or twice a month doing a side job I've picked up delivering about 10,000 magazines. I'd like to see you fit that into an S2000.

lol... well to be honest, I was looking for a 4WD truck, but decided that the few times I'd use it wouldn't pay for the gas and insurance it'd cost me.

2WD will get me out to the desert with both my sisters and their families to go camping/dirt biking just fine and thats all I ask.

You may not need it more than 3 or 4 times a year, but dammit you end up kicking yourself in the ass when you do NEED it and it's not there.

I do this about 6 times a year.

I'm stuck though, I'm falling in love with the new 360hp/650Ft-lbs Duramax Diesel and the Allison 6 speed automatic in the new GM trucks... I'd get a GMC cause they're sexy.

But then again, I love the 315hp/610ft Cummins in the Dodge Rams. Both are equally sexy in their rattling ways.

Unless you REALLY need the diesel engine for serious towing, why bother though ya know? They are so much more expensive than a comparable truck setup with a gasoline powerplant. I'd love to have the 6 spd manual that was offered for my truck though. The Allison woulda been kick ass as well. But I have to say, I've never had any complaints with the 4L80E. I beat the piss out of this truck and it's held up great. It's a 2002 with just under 130,000 miles and almost none of them are easy miles. We just had the tranny rebuilt at around 120,000 and if I had to I could have waited untill 135,000 or so.

It's also about time to get rid of that old, clogged up cat and muffler as well. A Magnaflow cat and Muffler will be going in soon, along with a much nicer 3 inch manifold-back exhaust. Then I think I'll toss on a K&N cai for fun.
