I'm new to the forum and I have used it before for the many other problems I have had with my 98 jimmy......signal relay ticking, wipers, anything electric really.......:banghead:

my newest challenge is that the fan won't stop blowing. The control knob is set at "OFF" and it still blows air. I can turn the vehicle off and take the key out and it still blows air. I found out the hard way when I went into a store and came back out and found that my battery was dead because the fan was running the whole time.

As soon as i got the vehicle boosted i noticed the fan was running on its own and I couldn't stop it. My only soultion was popping the hood and taking the HVAC fuse out, but now I have nothing.

It's summer so I can deal with just rolling the windows down, but once winter hits here it will not be an option.

Has anyone else ever had this problem or have any idea what it might be???

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated......

....to make things better my alternator died today.....at least that is easy to refurbish and fix....this fan thing has me scratching my head though.:screwy:

looking forward to your comments.

cheers

Welcome to the forum!

What speed is the fan stuck on? If it's stuck on high, the most likely cause is that the blower relay contacts have fused together. The relay is located in the power distribution panel on the left inner fender. On the underside of the panel cover is a diagram that shows fuse and relay location in the panel. If in fact this is the problem, removing the relay should shut off the blower motor.

If you have a voltmeter: With the key off, there should be power on only one terminal. With the key on, and with the switch in the high position there should be two with power. One of the remaining terminals goes to ground, and the fourth goes to the motor. Hope this helps.
