Can someone help me with this or direct me to a good website to get some things answered?
My Brother has asked me to find some things out about a car he recently acquired. I think it's a '73. It has Charger on the glovebox but we're not convinced it's a bonafide Charger. I will get some pictures if needed. Here's the VIN ... WH23G4AI44040.
(I think that eighth character is an I, or could be a 1).

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.
Bigindin.

Car Line: W = Dodge Coronet / Charger
Price Class: H = High
Body Type: 23 = 2 Door Hardtop
Engine: G = 318 150HP(net) or 170HP(net) 1-2BBL 8 CYL
Model Year: 4 = 1974
Assembly Plant: A = Lynch Road, MI, USA
Sequence Number: 144040 = 44040th Vehicle

The eighth character is a 1, not an I. It's a Charger since all Coronets were 4 doors after 1970, Chargers were always 2 door cars up until a couple years ago.

Thanks so much for your reply. Since that eighth character in the VIN is a 1, does that change the production number to 144 thousand and 40?
Also, this car has a 'shaker' sticking up through the hood. Would a car with a 318 come out with this, or perhaps a previous owner added it. What's your opinion?

Thanks again,
Dale - the Bigindin.

My car had a sequence number of 262586 and it was the 162586th vehicle. I don't know why that is but it's like that on all the cars, always one number ahead.

Someone added the shaker. Never on a 318, and never on a 1974 car.
