Cobra 75 mic mounting

For those of you with Cobra 75 CBs, where did you place the mic mount(the little metal thing that the mic slides into)? I was thinking about mounting it just to the left of middle air vents, where the dash starts to curve up, but I can't tell if there's anything back there that a screw might hit.

Thanks,
Spike

i don't have the 75, but this will work anyway. remove one of the screws from the dash part underneath the air controls. there are 2 of these screws, one on each side, take you piack from one side or another. take 2 pairs of pliers and bend the bottom part of the clip for the mic back so that you put the screw through the hole inthe clip the mic mount part is parralel to the dash. it's cheap, easy and sturdy. thanks to GoliathX for this little trick.

if that doesn't sound ok, then just to the right of the steering wheel there is that bare part that curves around the instrument panel. behind there is nothing that i know of. I put 3 screws in there and mounted my GPS swivel mount there, but you could put the mic holder. i used drywall screws. the ones with the plastic you insert and then screw into the plastic. if you want to be more secure, remove the plastic dash piece, which isn't hard and use an actual bolt and screw to put the mic holder there.

I just used two small screws that came with my CB and mounted it in that spot. You'd have to use some pretty long screws before you would run into anything there. Mine has been there for about a year now and hasn't fallen off, but it's really lightweight. I don't know how much more the 75 weighs, but I still wouldn't expect any problems, since that plastic there is fairly thick and sturdy.

Hey Spike!

I was gonna ask everyone about that too! I just got my Cobra 75 and was debating were to put the Mic?

So Synchro? Could you provide a pic of yours?

That's exactly where I was thinking of mounting it, Chuck. The 75 is a bit on the heavy side(as far as a cb mic goes), but I'm pretty sure the plastic is sturdy enough. If not, I'll just put some drywall screws in like Synchro mentioned.

Synchro, that seems like an easy place to mount it. I hopped in the truck and held the mic there to get an idea of what it would look like. The mounting bracket thing is really thick metal, so if I can manage to bend it, I'll try that spot. Also, the bracket has two holes, so I'm not sure if it will be sturdy enough there. I think I'll try mounting it under the air controls first, and if I'm not liking it there, I'll move it to where Chuck's mic is.

Yeah, Rick, I installed my 75 Wednesday, and hanging the mic from the rearview mirrior just wasn't cutting it. Got it installed and tuned yet? I don't know anyone with a SWR meter, so I had a stereo shop tune it for $3.

Thanks for the help guys.

I don't have one yet...

I removed the grab handle on the driver's side for better visibility out the front window. I never use that handle anyway. That left a perfect place for mounting a mic... The bolt is already there. I'll try to install mine there when I get a CB.

That's where I mounted mine(thanks Synchro for the instructions). Took all of two minutes. My mic sits a bit lower than the one in the pic(though it could be the angle the pic was taken at). Great place to mount it and it's sturdy.

I have the day off tomorrow before I head to GOX on Friday and will try to install the Cobra 75. I saw the screw you guys are hanging your mics from when I swaped my XE stereo for a SE stereo. That is where I want to put it!
