Blown Engine!!!!91LSspecial 07-07-2006, 12:28 PM I was cruisen down the 5 frwy in san diego yesterday at 80MPH, when i heard a pop and something inside my eninge was shot out of the engine agianst my radiator, creating a hole the size of a golf ball. I'll admit that i do drive kinda fast at times but its not like i'm out racing my little toaster van. Has any one else EVER heard of the XB breaking??? well i'm waiting for toyota to decide if its my fault or their fault, i'll be sure and update anyone who reads. some facts: bought in March of 2004 41,000 miles on the car the only things i have changed on my car is oil, tires, air filter, and brakes. all regularly changed. 91LSspecial 07-07-2006, 05:19 PM i just read this over and noticed that it sounds like theres a hole in my radiator...nope... theres a hole in the block of my engine the size of a golf ball. 91LSspecial 07-08-2006, 05:18 AM ok, so i went to toyota today and they said that the rod conecting the piston and the crank twisted!!!!!! WTF... and when it twisted it started banging agianst the wall of the block and put a hole in it. I REALLY NEED HELP HERE, if any one has heard of this happening to an echo or other scions please let me know so i can metion it to the toyota rep when i see him...I BOUGHT THIS CAR SO IT WOULDNT BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks so much for any help! i really hope Toyota dosent screw me on this. jwaj2002 07-09-2006, 01:04 PM I haven't heard of one, but thats scary, I've got an xb too, and it does seem like its running a bit funny to me Jay! 07-09-2006, 02:39 PM Do you know how fast the engine was spinning when it happened? (i.e. Do you have a tachometer?) I've only really heard of stuff like this when a motor was seriously over-revved. I've only really heard of stuff like this when a motor was seriously over-revved. 80 mph in even in that little car isn't fast... 130 kmh.. I think the problem is something more along the lines of quality. These defects can happen in any brand of car. prototype80 11-20-2006, 04:10 PM i havent heard of this problem but thanks for the heads up, my xb has about 27500 on its odometer right now so i'll keep an eye out for this problem to arise. was yours a manual or an automatic? Ian Szgatti 11-20-2006, 07:50 PM Anyone know where these cars are manufactured? freakray 11-20-2006, 08:00 PM Anyone know where these cars are manufactured? At the Toyota plant in Indiana, that would make them domestic manufacture :smooch: wagonbldr 12-13-2006, 09:42 PM Scions are manufactured in Japan. That is why it takes so long to get your order. At 80 mph the 5 speed is turning about 4000 rpm and the automatic is turning 3500 rpm. I have read of this happening on scionlife.com, and it was possibly attributed to the CAI that was installed. It was raining and because the CAI picks up air low and in front of the front tire, it was thought to have gotten a shot of water and hydrauliced the engine. Ian Szgatti 12-13-2006, 10:09 PM and because the CAI picks up air low and in front of the front tire, it was thought to have gotten a shot of water and hydrauliced the engine. thats sweet... a cold water intake... how loverly jwaj2002 12-23-2006, 05:23 AM yep, theres probably 40 people that have blown xb motors on scionlife Ethereal_Dragon 03-04-2007, 04:16 PM I hope you have the extended warrenty on yours.... I have an '05 manual xB which I JUST rolled over 40,000 miles a few days ago. I have a 72,000 mile extended warrenty on mine. I hope everything works out for you. jwaj2002 03-07-2007, 08:14 PM everything I've read is the dealers aren't doing anything about it vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
