Alright, any and all feedback asap, please.

Well someone around my city is selling a red (and black) 1992 TSI AWD. The car has 190,000 miles on it, but the engine has 10,000 and its a six-bolt. She sent me two pics and its looks pretty damn clean. Anyways, she said the price is $2000 and that she is open for negotiation. The seller also says and I quote "The turbo has zero shaft play. Also, the rear end is the more desireable/stronger 4 bolt." I am not too familiar with that last statement...any info???

Anyways, what do ya'll think of the price? Do you think I should get this, and what should I offer her?

Ill try to post up some pics, but I always have bad luck.

Hey, thanks killer for mentioning that. The lady/man says that the car runs great and I cant see how that is. Anyways, the seller is like 10 miles away from me, so imma check it out either tomorrow or sunday.

Ha, I am familar with a 1g :D. That hose is supposed to connect to the J pipe that bolts onto the compressor outlet. Appearantly, they took the J pipe out for whatever reason, it will need that to be able to be driven. Also, I think from 91-94, they had the BOV on the underside of the IC pipe, its there, just hidden. Mine on my 90 is on top, I dont know why they would have changed it. See where that wire loom thing is going over the IC pipe right above the air filter? Thats where the BOV is, if you look a little to the left of the wire loom on the top of the IC pipe you can see the BOV flange.

I would offer him like $1500. If it runs and drives good with no leaks, good brakes, newish tires, and cleaner interior/exterior then I would say $2000 is a decent price, but since hes "negociable" he wants to get rid of it either A) because hes sick of it, needs room, doesnt want it anymore, etc, or B) theres something else fucked up with it. Test it out, do a compression test, check fluids, and give it a good hearty look over and see what you think.

I thought on the 1st gens the BOV was on the left side near where the Air intake filter would sit.

She said she drives it too work everyday and and that it runs great. The funny thing is, i forgot to ask her what kind of tranny it has (auto or manual)....lol....I feel like a newbie, I hope it 5-spd.

the 4 bolt reffers to the rear end. In the 92-94 models of DSM's they had what is called a 4 bolt rear end which is basicly a stronger read end than those in the 90-91. Many people often do the 4 bolt rear end swap. Atleast I'm pretty sure it was 92-94 ;)

its look like auto to me , I cant see the " thing :grinyes: " I dont know what it caller, you can tell it auto or manual by looking under next to the battery, it should have 2 "thing with black rubber on it "

Actually, the 4 bolt is 92-99 IIRC.

Looks hella clean man. If it runs good and everything I would give them 2k for it. But if you can get it for cheaper then thats even better.

Yea, I am pretty pumped up to get it...I was going to check out the car today, but their was like a mini-hurricane over here. Massive amounts of rain for like 3 hours, so I will hopefully check it out on Sunday.

God, I hope its manual, otherwise I will probably just forget about it.

We will see.

Also ***, how can you differentiate the six bolt from the seven bolt? I remeber reading something about a dent in the oil pan??

Im pretty sure that was 6 bolt, I barely saw a 92 with 7 bolt in it .

I read before that 90-91 has six bolts, and the 92-99 has seven bolts. I know for sure that only only the very first 1gs had six bolts.

Most 92's had 6 bolts. They switched 2/3 through the year.

Alright well, I talked to the guy on the phone, and I am set up to test drive and most likely buy it in about 5 hours. Any ways, he explained more to me on the car...and here are the cons:

1. Very small boost leak.
2. Clearcoat on hatch is real bad.
3. Drivers seat has a small tear on bolster.
4. No shift KNOB
5. No stereo...(just no head unit)

Other than that, everything is fine...he says it has no smoke what-so-ever out the back...so hopefully in a few hours, I will get that car.

If he had any sense, he would put a damn shift knob and some kind of stereo in the car before you try to sell it, those things are cheap and give it a little more of a well-taken care of look to people. When there are small things like that missing it just shows he is lazy and probably didn't put in that extra effort for everything else that matters on the car. :2cents:

Defianly a 5sp because it had no dipstick for the a/t trans fluid(in front of the UICP).
My 92 is a 6bolt(door panel says may 92). A quick check besides the oil pan to see if it is a 6 bolt is to look at the front calipers and see if it is dual pistons or single. Single=6 bolt, dual=7 bolt. If you cant tell by looking at the caliper, put your hand behind it and see/feel if it has 2 humps(2 pistons) or one big hump(single piston).
