Ring and pinion gear question...

Will a broken/failing ring and pinion gear cause the SES light to flash? I stopped at a red light and when it turned green I made a right turn and half way through the car started making a sound like it had a flat tire. I pulled over and checked all the tires and they were all okay. I've been suspecting the gears to go out anyways...any other ideas? Thanks.

I don't think it would be setting a SES light but a brake light should go on cause if your ring gear was missing teeth the pinion/VSS sensor would be spinning faster than the reluctor ring on your ring gear was spinning and it may set a code but I doubt it.

the pinion/VSS sensor would be spinning faster than the reluctor ring .

The VSS is part of the long term fuel trim calc, that will set a code in the PCM and trip the SES light.
