Need some help on deciding what to do?

Ok i have a 1992 camaro RS, i really like the car, its grown on me a lot.. the paint is a lil wore inside is nice, but the transmission is leaking at the motor where the torque converter is so my mechianic says he wants $900 to get it fixed, i believe that a new transmission and install, my friend said he got a transmission from the junkyard for $300....so now that you know my story what should i do? spend $900 to get a transmission and be put in, or buy a $300 tranmission and have a friend do it for a couple hundred, or swap it in myself if its not to hard? i think 900 is an ok deal but for a car that old and i don't know how much longer i want it and its all stock i dunno... if any of you guys where in my shoe's what would you do??? and is a transmission swap hard? and i decide on getting if from the junkyard i may get a posi z-28 rear end

go get it rebuilt for $900 that is a GOOD deal and if you get one from a junk yard you have the chance of it not working, or it might be a 700r4 without the electric speedometor, or it might start leaking just like yours. Just get it rebuilt.

I agree.. $900 sounds pretty good for a rebuild.. try to talk to the guy who's going to rebuild it and ask if he could put in a shift kit and torque converter if you bought the parts, that'd really help you out with speed and quicker shifting than any human could..

Also if you can find a rear from a 4th gen Z28 from the junkyard (If that's what you were talking about) go and take that sucker and put it into your Camaro.. you'll notice the difference.
