Porting/Polishing LT1 Intake Manifold?

Can anyone that has done/knows how to, port and polish the stock LT1 Intake Manifold, give me a link, or a how-to on doing this yourself? The LT4 Manifolds are too expensive, so I'm looking at maybe getting some extra HP outta my stock piece...Predictions on this job's HP increase would be great too...

Thanks,
Tim

Only think that you can do to those manifolds is enlarge the throttle body bores and port match the manifold with the heads. You can polish the outside and make it pretty. :) But I dont think you can do much to the inside of it. Maybe some minor porting. Formula will know.

You are correct sir. The only signicant improvement in performance your going to see is if you port match the heads to the intake manifold using the gasket match port procedure. The throttle body opening on the stock LT1 manifold is 52MM and the stock tb is 48MM. The only reason you would need to port the tb opening would be if you were going to a 58MM tb but to be making the power to require such a large tb , you would need a pretty radical cam or the juice or a power adder. Otherwise a 48/52MM is plenty.

So, Formula, u think it's worth it to port out to the heads? I now realize that the TB inlet it pointless w/ the 48mm TB I have....How much of a hassel would Porting the other end be? Do u think there is a signifigant gain to be had there HP/quarter time wise? Worth the work?

Thanks For Your Input,
Tim

Absolutely, the heads are the most important part to seeking best performance potential from any engine. The smoother, cleaner flowing heads, the more potential for a smooth direct flow of air/fuel mixture enter the combustion chamber and the quicker than can be expelled. Without a good set of heads, your just starving your engine.
