I have a 1999 Chev 1500 w/ 5.7 engine and want to replace a leaking power steering pump. Can I remove the pump without removing the pulley from the pump first. I do not have a puller that fits. Any tips welcome. thanks

Nope, sorry you need to get the pulley off to get the bolts that hold the pump to the bracket.

FRED ... I did my Steering pump about 3 months ago and I had to take that pulley off IN THE VAN to get to the bolts ... I worked on my back from under the van ...They have a special puller that grabs the groove at the front of the pulley and pulls the pulley off ... I had to grip the pulley with a BIG strap wrench (Sears)to hold it and keep it from turning I also used a big 1/2 inch ratchet to get enough leverage to get the pulley off... IT IS A TOUGH JOB and my arms are skinned up to prove it ... I had to take out part of the mounting bracket too to get it out ...I suggest you try Autozone as they LOAN tools to do some of these jobs like this ... You pay them a deposit on the tool and you get your money back when you return the tool ... Other parts stores may loan tools too let your fingers do the walking and good luck on the job ! love my Chevy van ! Bob in Michigan
