My First V8 Muscle Car

Haha, I was driving my Iroc-Z on the expressway...in rush hour so I didn't have a whole lot of fun, but I love how the 305 sounds and I spun the tires just leaving M+D Auto. After driving it around, I decided I'll spend some money on it (past budget) to rebuild the steering with a front end kit, install an external temp gauge because it needs it, and I'm very surprised that It might need synthetic oil after all.

Problems after work, permanent problem with a valve, only 1 out of 2 radiator fans work, and the price, damn that set me back a lot. But it's all good, my first camaro runs excellent.

.......Yes

--but I'm gonna drive it for a little while. I do know this. I love V8s.

If the steering is loose AND the wheel isn't aligned, It would be best to replace the tie rods, ball joints, etc right?

your going to run synththetic oil in it? don't because it will start using oil most likely.

What would synthetic oil have to do with that?

Well you know how I thought the engine had 178,000 miles, only to find out it was 117k? The high mileage oil I used must be too thick, but I'll be the judge of that based on it's performance.

if your motor d to haveing regular convintinal oil in it then 100,000 miles later you start to use synthic the rings are used to the regular oil and synthic oil is slicker so it goes past the rign are starts to burn and use oil. This does not happen ALL the time but most of the time it does.

Tech said to use synthetic, I shouldn't believe him? my oil pressure is redlining at idle, I think that's bad.
I actually can't be sure if it didn't have synthetic before.

i am not telling you what to do. i am just telling you what happens most of the time when people run regular oil in there cars most there lives then switch to synthetic oil. you probly have a 85-90% chance of it start to use oil. There is till high milage oil out there that is not synthetic oil. castrol gtx high milage is a GREAT oil that is not synthetic.

I've got 10w-30 Pennzoil High Mileage for now.

Keep using the high mileage stuff.. unlike regular oil (Dont know about synthetic so consider this out until someone else says something) the high mileage stuff is there to renew stuff with the oil not just keep it oiled.. :lol2: Anyway id keep using the high mileage oil instead of synthetic because of the oil leaks that it seems to cause.

I'd like to see some hard evidence that it "renews" stuff enough to matter.

I used the synthetic on my daily driver at the time with 105K and what a mess. The car never once leaked oil before. With the synthetic, it seeped out the front seal and got slung all over the engine bay that people used to say, "wow, this is a 20 year old car? What do you do, clean the motor every weekend?". Anyway, the oil got everywhere, and even more so, if you went through a puddle, with all the oil being on the belt, the tensioner would slip and guess what? You're stuck putting you rbelt back on in the pouring rain. :cya:

As for the steering, go with the tie rods first before you start going ape and tearing everything up. As you already know form dealing with the rear strut bolts, stuff doesn't like to come off easily on a 19 year old car.

So what was the problem with injectors 1 nd 3 not firing?

only 1 out of 2 radiator fans work, .

umm, you do know for normal cooling, only 1 fan is commanded to come on, the other comes on with the a/c.

Really? Are all aftermarket radiators built to do this? I'll take pictures of what I mean. They replaced the 1 and 3 injectors because there was an immediate problem with them, probably the firing.

no that's the way it is supposed be. the left fan should come on in resonse to temp, the right fan should come on in reponse to the A/C being on.

:grinyes: si.

quicksilver...you should run a quick a/c check. just turn on your a/c then look to see if the passanger side fan is working(the ac fan). if not...then yea theres a problem.

if you want to improve your oil pressure you might want to try some seafoam in your engine, just follow the bottles instructions and you'll be good to go

Yes, I to say go with the seafoam use. Ive used it with no trouble at all, my caprice ran smoother, it acutally helped its idle.

Its a god to my 305. itll remove a lot of the carbon off the valves/pistons.
