What would be the best way to get one. I've talked to a person at a body shop and they recommended that I look for a junked Firebird with a Ram Air hood. My car is Red. I've thought about just ordering the hood for $650 from RamAirhood.com and letting my local body shop paint it and install it but it's going to cost a little over $1000 for all of that.
Anyways, what is the best way/ cheapest way to get a Ram Air hood? Which hood is the best? Are the Replica Ram Air hoods the same as the factory? For all the Ram Air hood owners on here...did any of you order one or did it just come with your car?

They have a SLP red ram air hood for $250.00 Hickman Motors, Inc. (http://www.hickmanmotorsinc.com/) USA-KY(Hickman) E-mail 1-800-637-4831
Edit- Also from personal experience I know that a firebird hood will fit in the trunk when the side trim pieces are removed.

I know that fbodymotorsports.com and hawksthirdgenparts.com sell used parts off of salvaged cars and stuff like that, you could probably get a good one there..

Thanks formulaLT1...I called hickman motors but there is some damage to the hood and it's going to take several hundred dollars to repair...I'm thinking it would just as cheap if not easier to order a new hood.

Sorry about that. It was the only one I saw in KY and it didn't list damage in the ad. If you don't mind paying a little extra for shipping or doing some traveling. I can do a nationwide salvage yard search.

I would apperciate formula...I want to get a Ram Air hood for my car as cheap as I can. My local body shop said they would blend the paint if it wasn't painted...

Mind if I ask why you want to put a ram air hood on a v6 car? I know they look better, but do you know the abuse your going to take having that on the car? People who don't know better will want to race you, people who do know better will dog you for having it on there. Seems easier just to find the car you want and trade up to a V8 ram air car. just my :2cents:

I completely disagree with your statement. I see guys with V6's around my city all the time, do I dog on them.. no. Do others I know dog on them.. no. I don't how or why that would be necessary? I mean, you're upgrading a cosmetic feature. Yeah, if I see that the hood hasn't been made to be functional, then I think what was the point of getting the hood then? But even still, I eventually plan on getting a Ram Air hood too. You can dog on me then if you want, not like I'll care what negative comments others have to say. As for trading in for a V8.. you ever come to think maybe not all of us can afford that? Especially with gas prices the way they are, and having to keep that sucker filled with premium isn't going to be cheap. I personally like my 23 mpg daily driver V6, and wouldn't ever think about trading it in for a V8.
Remember.. just because it's a V6, doesn't mean it's still not an F-body. You don't have to look down upon it and wonder why would somebody want to put a Ram Air hood on it. Just because it's a V6, doesn't mean it can't look nice, it doesn't mean it shouldn't stand out.

Didn't mean to offend anyone ... Guess things are different down in Flordia, in ohio & michigan theres alot of muscle car people that pay close attention to those kinda things, especially if you work in the auto industry like I do ... I would never be able to live down "trying to dress it like muscle car" (as it would be told to me). If you will not have to put up with that kind of abuse then by all means dress up the car to make it look nice. Guess I live around a rougher crowd ... Like I said didn't mean to disrespect anyone, just thought he'd go thru the same abuse I would if I were to do that.
Back to the V6's ... are you really only getting 23 mpg ????
I've got an 02 ram air 6speed and I do alot of country driving, but also my share of city driving, and im getting around 25 mpg .... but it is premium ... and I do have a K&N in it. My driving style is play going thru the first 2 or 3 gears then quickly shift thru the rest.
So is 23 mpg an average for auto V6's? seems kinda low to me

Well the majority of people around here drive imports. So there's more of a segragation line between imports and domestics. Rather than V6 domestic and V8 domestic as I guess it is where you're at.

For a 1995 (11 years old) car to be gettin 23 mpg IMO is really good. And you have to think, your car has more technology built into it than mine. Such as your MAF, where as I only have a speed density unit. My car was rated at 17 mpg city from the factory. And when I first got my car, before I started to do any modifications, it was only getting about 16 mpg. So to have worked it up to gaining 7 more mpg, seems pretty good to me.
Didn't mean to make it sound as if I were going off on ya. To me your post just sounded like the same old thing most guys with V8's tells the guys with V6's. To just trade it in and not waste their money on a V6. I see where you're coming from now, but I just find it to be more useful to help someone with something they would like to do rather than to point them down a whole different direction.

I think the "Raptor" hood is a popular aftermarket ws6-style hood. it's not exactly like the factory's, but it looks pretty close. f-body enthusiasts will be able to tell the difference, but it's cheaper than buying the actual authentic ws6 hood from GM which I wanna say costs around $1700 (correct me if i'm wrong)?

Raptor hood looks exactly like the Firehawk hood. I think it may be a little taller.
WS.6 hood is expensive from the factory. I am sure you could find one at a junkyard if you looked for a while.
WS.9 hood is the same as the WS.6 hood but with heat extractors like the Firehawk hood has.
Those would be the only options I would put on my car.
There are other hoods, but they are quite ugly in my opinion.
I understand the want to make your car look better. But changing the hood is not a cheap mod. Brand new plus paint will most likely be near/over $1000. Personally, I would be looking at performance mods instead. Of course, all I want is to go faster. I have done little things for looks, but nothing that cost very much.
Good luck either way!
