Hi, having a fuel problem, i was wondering if a sending unit has anything other to do then just for the fuel guage reading? I have replaced the fuel pump and fuel pump relay, all the fuses are good, it is reading fuel properly, fuel pump is turning on, new fuel filter.... however, it will crank but will not start unless starting fluid is injected, then it will run until it burns it out.

Could be the pressure regulator on the fuel rail.

Have tried to get a pressure reading?

Hi, thanks for the reply, if orget to say, that was also replaced. This all started because of a wiring problem on the firewall because of no check engine/brake light when the key was turned. It was towed to a shop, repaired, but then wouldn't start. They said they figured out is was the computer and said a dealer would have to fix it. The dealer said it was the fuel pump relay, replaced it, but said they realized the fuel bump had burned out. They wanted 1200 to do it, i said i will do it seeing i have done it twice already. Still, no luck

Well, sorry to say, but it could be quite a few things then at this point. Does the Check engine light still not come on?

It does come on now, all lights on the dash are funtioning properly now when the key is turned to the on position

the only thing i have left to check, which i will in a little while, is with my research, i heard there is a fuse near the battery on the fender, by itself, like a dead end wire.. can't remember what it is for, but i thought it had something to do with the fuel system.

Hmm, what made the 'repair shop' say it was the ECM?

You really need to get a hold a fuel pressure gauge. I assume it's a TPI motor?

i don't know y they said it, but $250 later, the car is still in pieces, and not running..

if the pump is coming on then chances are the fuse is ok, but worth a try, it's on the passenger fender right above the battery tray in a weather tight connecto.

Does the sending unit have anything other to do then read gas? If the gas guage is working, is that all it does?

what else could tell the injecter to open? i know it's something electrical seeing thats where this problem started

Seding unit is just for the gauge.

Other possibilites, oil pressure sending unit, shuts the pump off in the event of low oil pressure. ICM, ignition control module, distributer reference. Damged injector harness. MAF problem, mass air flow sensor circuit. INJ 1 & INJ 2 fuses That's a few.
