I got a question a friend of mine has a 97 or 98 grand am and its blowing tranny fluid out of the axle shaft as fast as you put it in I know there is an outer seal but I didn't think that that was the main seal that held the fluid in I thought there was an inner seal to do that anyone have any info for me would help its a v6 also GTP Dad 06-19-2006, 12:34 PM There is an axle shaft seal on the side where the axle shaft enters the transmission. It will leak just like a main seal if it is bad. Change it and the leak should go away. superiorite 06-19-2006, 02:39 PM Is this something that can be changed without pulling the tranny? GTP Dad 06-19-2006, 08:19 PM Yes, remove the axle shaft and replace the seal. You will need to pull the front wheel and remove the axle nut. You may also need to remove the strut to give you enough clearance and to drop the front wheel out of the way. Once you get the shaft out pull the old seal and replace it with a new one. Use a seal puller and a seal installer to make sure you don't damage the new seal. Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
