rear brakesedbrycem 06-18-2006, 01:47 PM I was wondering if someone could tell me why the rear brakes on my truck get really touchy after driving for a little while. when i first leave my house after sitting overnight, they seem fine. after awhile they get REALLY touchy. I'll stop at a light and if i let it roll a little bit then hit the brake about a half inch u can feel it grab really hard in the rear and skid a little. if there wasn't ABS on it they would probably lock up when i hit the brakes (kinda like a last minute stop) not typically hard enuf to skid but hard enuf to stop quickly. it only acts like that after it was driven for awhile. they dont drag and i dont smell brakes burnin' either. 98 dodge 1500, qd cab w/ 360, A/T Thanks, Ed scoutinkeith 07-11-2006, 12:14 PM how many miles are on the rear breaks? have they ever been adjusted? my first guess would be that the self adjuster is not adjusting properly, and only the top edges of the break shoes are contacting the drum. and once the breaks get warmed up a little, they grab. edbrycem 07-11-2006, 02:15 PM how many miles are on the rear breaks? have they ever been adjusted? my first guess would be that the self adjuster is not adjusting properly, and only the top edges of the break shoes are contacting the drum. and once the breaks get warmed up a little, they grab. I checked them at the beginning of march and they were in great shape. I did not adjust them but now after u mentioned that i dont remember how much drag i had on them. i'll check them again this week and see how they are and adjust if needed.
