By his sig, I'm assuming the 4.8l.

Didn't even look at that.
2003 4.8L.
I will have to look some stuff up.

You are gonna need more than a cam to get to that 400 HP mark with the 4.8L.
But we can help.

i have a 4.8 also.would a mild LS1 cam just be too much for it?i been wonderin since i bought the truck.i honestly didnt think valve clearance would be an issue, i was more concerned with over camming the engine since its so much smaller in displacement

I am going out on a limb here because I haven't researched it at all yet.

But...thinking a 224/224 580/580 114 would probably be a good cam for that motor. Should lope fairly nicely with your cubes.
Actually, that may even be a little big.
Maybe a 220/220 565/565 113 or so.

yeah that was kinda my mindset also.i know that with a custom grind u can get a near perfect cam but i was thinkin more along the lines of off the shelf stuff for cost purposes.its obviously not gonna take the lift and duration that it would in a 5.7 liter engine to make decent power.and i would love 400 hp outta mine too but im not sure that little engine can do it and still have great torque.with a lumpy cam the engine will scream at 6,000 rpm but the engines a lot smaller than an LS1 and the trucks a lot heavier than a camaro.i think what i really need is more displacement

the trucks barely worth twice the cost of one of those things lol im pretty sure its more cost effective to just buy an LS1 camaro or t/a than it is to try to make my truck run like one.at least the cars have sort of a back seat too

well, in the next year or so i'm going to install a 383ci stroker kit or at the very least a 346ci stroker(compared to my 294ci), but recently i've been playing with the idea of pulling the 294ci out and dropping a ls1 or ls6 in, but i don't know how that would fly with the cpu. i'm thinking i might be able to get by with using the stock 294ci cpu but with some tweaking from a reprogramer, but i don't know how well that is going to fly. i think i'm gonna have to settle with putting a stroker kit in, but i'm gonna save that as a last resort. i really want to get 400hp out of that 294ci 4.8L V8. and i wanna try and do all motor....if i can. i already have my eye on a set of 5.3L heads.

My Trans Am has an LQ9 402 in it. Stock computer.

Should be fine, it will just need a flash.

Those heads won't fit anything under a 4" bore.

you sure about that luos? does stage III include opening the chambers to fit 4" bore? ls6 heads should fit an ls1 bore. 5.3's have the same bore as ls1 motors just a different stroke....unless im way off... :)

Of course I am sure.

The valves on those Stage III heads are too big for the stock bore. You want at least a 4" bore to run those stage III valves.

Mr. Luos

2.08" intake
1.60" exhuast

I am running said LS6 stage III heads. 2.08/1.60
Don't really want to go over 2.05 on a stock bore LS1.
