okokok... Front Rims & Tires

Red Death currntly has the skinnies up front... DON'T LIKE.

Want something that can old the road a bit, and won't blow out if I happen to hit one of the many pot holes in the area... (PennDOT SUCKS!)

Anyhooo I have no idea what size rims and tires I need to look at, nor what brand of tires are decent. The rear tires are 275's Firestone Firehawks.. and I THINK they're 60-16's... not sure.

I was thinking of like an 8.5" x 16" rims for the front - I want a wide aggressive stance, and something that'll handle some hard cornering if decide to get on it a bit on the back roads, or won't blow out if I hit a poithole at 85 mph. Have no idea on the tires.

Any help?

i think about a 255 is as wide as you can go without problems.

I am real happy with my toyo proxies. The hold the road real well. I really have to try and spin the tires if I want to. Before I got the Proxies I has Zieuks, think i spelled it wrong, Those were good and I got 20k on them. I don't think you would want to go wider than 8.5 due to you might rub if you crang the wheel all the way. Not that you would do that on the road.
Check out this site might give you some idea

I can call this place and see what the biggest tire you can put on a 1970 maro if you want?

I just called then, they said if you have the stock 15in wheels he would go with 235 70 15 on the rear and 235 60 15 on the front, if you have 16in wheels he would go with 235 60 16 all the way around. If i remember what he said right...
Good luck man

The '73 I had was running stock size all the way around, 235 70 15, no problems with cornering or potholes, but in nh they do a slightly better job filling them in (except for the small backasswards towns that use sand to fill them), and I was running bf goodrich ta's.

I was going to ask the exact same thing!

anyway, you have a pretty big car and you might not think 8.5" is enough. have you seen what it looks like on your car? that's only an inch bigger than the factory size for 3rd gens and i thought it wasn't nearly wide enough. I have 9.5" right now (on 245/40/17 rubber and they look aggressive). So for 8.5", between 215-235 would be about right... you don't have to be exact. but i think you might want wider for such a car.

on an 8" rim the farthest you can go is 255. Do you like a classic large profile tire smaller wheel look or a newer retro lower profile look? Whats the lug pattern on your car?

Seriously though, i think the bolt pattern is 5 bolt 4.75". And I like the old style smaller rim, bigger tires... i think. If I can find a good shot of what I'm looking for I'll post it up sometime... okokok?
