I have a 1996 Trans am 5.7. I just had to replace my tranny. There is a huge tear in my intake elbow. Would this cause my mass airflow sensor to mess up enough to where my car lugs and sometimes dies?

Where is this tear??
Can you get me a pic?

If your car is getting unmetered air...then yes, that could be the problem.

the tear is after the maf right where it connects to my intake

yes, this would likely cause your car to run poorly.

your MAF (mass airflow sensor) reads the volume of air entering the engine and adjsuts the fuel and timing ,etc for it. This tear is allowing extra air to enter (think every time you rev your engine- the torque rocks it a little, this rocking could be opehning that gap and since your engine is sucking in air- it'll suck it in there too.) so that could lean your engine out, cause a bog, or worse...

not to mention this is unfiltered air- dust/ particles could enter and damage your engine. at least wear it down faster...

duct tape it up or park your car until you can replace it.

Just get a 1LE intake elbow from SLPto replace it. It doesn't have the 'donkey dong' silencer and should flow a bit more air. Its only ~$40 or so.
