99 Century - Climate Control Problems

I have a '99 Century 3.1L

When you switch the ventilation positions like defrost, blend, vent nothing changes except the compressor comes on and off based on the setting. The air flow is stuck on blend i believe the air comes out floor/vent/defrost right now.

Also the A/C will not go to the MAX setting (interior air) which is related to the above im sure.

Things i have tried...

1. Changed the blower motor resistor (no effect, did not fix the problem)
2. Changed the climate control switch circuit board
3. Changed the fan speed switch
4. Checked fuses briefly (just looking at them they looked ok)

I didn't have the switch for the air position switch (ie. vent, a/c) so i couldn't test that. I think this is maybe where the problem lies because this switch has two copper contacts that touch the circuit board, im assuming one contact is working fine to shut on/off the A/C compressor when switching, but not the other contact to switch the air flow settings (along with the max A/C setting)

Where could i find this part, having a hard time searching for it, what would it be called exactly?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks

Welcome to AF.

It sounds like you may be missing accessory vacuum. So you might check the vacuum line running from the intake manifold, by the battery and over to the firewall. Inside the cabin around the blower motor will be a distribution block where engine vacuum inputs and then branches off to the various actuators that control the vents and airflow. The climate control provides the electrical signals and commands but vacuum is still used throughout the HVAC system.

One symptom is you will only get airflow out of the floor or defrost vents.

Thanks, was looking at the end connected to the vent actuators actually earlier. I will have a look at it tomorrow.
