Hey peeps, I have a 99 2dr, its not a ZR2 but I really like the looks of the ZR2. Now im not a faker and im not going to put on ZR2 stickers and say its a ZR2. I just really like the looks. How do I go about the conversion? What is needed? Do I a have to get different rims or just beigger tires? Thanks! :frog:

The ZR2 lift kit is a lot of parts different than a normal S-10 4X4. Main thing is that the rear end is 4" wider than the 4X4, which is allready 4" wider than the 2WD S-10. It is also posi traction 4.11 (I think) gears with discs breaks. The front looks to be the same upper and lower control arms, but I do think they have different GM part numbers than other 4X4's? If you really wanna lift a 4X4, take out the torsion bar adjuster bolts and replace them with longer GRADE 8 bolts of the same size (7/16ths I think) and threading (20 I think)? This will jack up the front end farther than you could by just cranking up the bolts. It will also make you tires have really bad positive camber (tires leaning out at the top). Fix this by sliding the camber adjusting bolts all the way in. This will let you know how high up you can raise the front and still get an allignment into specs. Crank up the bolt some more untill it looks good. DO NOT think youre done here! You still need a professional allignment done with speacial laser tools to set it perfect at 0 degrees. Not getting in an allignment will wear out your new tires and cause major handling problems!

In the rear, to match the front, you can do shackles, add-a-leaf, or my favorite, an axle flip kit that puts the axle bellow the leaf springs and gives you lift and added ground clearance because now the shocks aren't so far below the axle that they hang lower than the pumpkin of the rear end. New shocks will finish it off nice. Dual shock hoops would really set it off! And don't forget some deep dish 16"x12" crome 5 star rims wrapped in some 33" super swampers. I wouldn't go bigger than a 15" wide 33" tall tire on an S-10 or it will rub plus have terrible gas mileage. Complete the look with thoes extra wider wheel flares if your 4X4 doesn't have them allready. Good luck!

Enhanced front (7.25" ring gear) and rear (8.5" ring gear) axles w/ 3.73:1 rear-axle ratio

Larger wheel and axle bearings

31 x 10.5R-15 LT/C black wall off-road tires (BFG A/Ts on pickups and BFG Long Trails on BlaZeR2)

46mm gas pressurized Bilstein Monotube shocks

Rear axle track bar (pickups) / rear sway bar (BlaZeR2)

Wheel flares (black on S-10 pickups and BlaZeR2 / body-color on Sonoma pickups)

My old service manager tried converting his using all the GM parts that showed as being different. Never could get it to stop chewing up front c.v. boots. Ended up taking everything back off.

my suggestion. either just leave the stuff stock and do a lift/upgrade or actually buy a ZR2. you'll wind up spending a ton more for parts and labor that it would to actually buy a used ZR2.
