4.6 vs 5.0

I was just curious about which engine is preffered by other T-bird owners? 5.0 or 4.6? I currently own a 93 lx 5.0.

both have about the same stats

4.6 vs 5.0 ( 4.6L Specs 5.0L Specs )

I had a '93 LX w/5.0 HO, and I loved the car. I also took a '94 4.6 T-Bird for a test drive from a dealership, and personally, I liked the 5.0 better. Just my opinion. ;)

well at the time, ford had been using the 5.0 for quite some time and had really known what they were doing with it. The 4.6 was just starting and had quite a few mechanical problems with it, and some problems such as the rings wearing too quickly etc. My 5.0 beat a mustang gt with 4.6 (96 gt) and it was a good driver behind the wheel. Now ford has had time to perfect the 4.6 but too late for us t-bird owners.

THe 5.0 revs higher than my 4.6L (has a limiter on it), and seems to have more torque.

The 5.0 isn't as good as the 4.6 for fuel economy, but I'd take it any day over the 4.6L.

It's louder, 'cruder' in that it isn't a technological engine, and it's an old school push rod motor, and I feel they are more dependable in the long run.

Also, a 302 is an easy rebuild (should the need arise), whereas the 4.6 is a nightmare, and it's more cost effective to buy a new 4.6 than to rebuild one.

personally guys. i would have to go with the 4.6. they r actually smaller than a 283 and the crank sit further inside the block than you typical engines giving it a shorter stroke. i have a 94 t-bird with the 4.6 and my dad has a 96 mustang gt with the 4.6. they both are wicked cars even stock. and since we just rebuilt the one in the t-bird i personally know from the looks of this design that they were built to be punished. i would put my 4.6 against a 5.0 anyday. just my opinion!
