hey everybody, what's up???

I'm having a problem with my blower...
it used to work only on settings 3&4 but now
it doesn't work at all...

I saw boingo's post about the blower resistor being bad but in that case settings 1-3 didn't work, only 4 did...

so could i be having the same problem?
the ac still comes out cold, i just have no
fan action....
thanks in advance for any replies.......!!!

Get a new resistor from the scrappies. I got three for £2 and they just fit in behind the passenger glove box (on my rhd anyway). Takes about 30 secs to fit.

Even if you buy a new blower motor resistor (and I'm certain this is the problem), it won't cost more than $25 US. It can be installed in a minute with a Phillips Screwdriver. More details at http://www.sentra.net/tech/repairs-resistor.php?

hey thanks for your replies everybody....

I'm having trouble getting these parts, it seems the oem numbers
i got off ser.net are wrong:

91-94 All models 27150-62J01
95-98 All models 27150-2M105

does anyone know where to get this part? (my g20 is a 91)
new or used.
I tried car-parts.com & parts.com with no luck.

Thanks!

Okay, the part for our P10 has been "upgraded" to a new part with the following number: Blower Motor Resistor #27150-62J60 The original part number that I pulled out of mine (I'm changing mine over as we speak... well TRYING) is the 27150-62J00. But then there's my own personal problem...

My original problem was that my fan switch worked on #4 only, and gave a very light flow on all other levels (yes, even "off")... I replaced the original part for the replacement 62J60 and it gave me nothing from Off-3 and still works full blast on #4. :( I even tried cleaning the old resistor with electromotive cleaner, and I found rust in the little "card-slot" so I sprayed all that down, too. But still no change. My dad suspects the fan switch itself has gone bad, but in order to take it out you have to disassemble the ENTIRE DASH to get at it.

What I'm getting at is: does anyone have any ideas of what else could be messed up???

It's easy to get to the switch. Get yourself a Haynes if you haven't already got one. You have to take the facia that goes around the stereo, cassette holder and air control box panel, then you can pull the panel out. From there I'd hope you'd be able to get the switch out of the panel, but Haynes doesn't go into that much detail. From what you say it, being that it works full on setting 4 and not at all on the others, that's the resistor. But seeing as you've replaced that I'd have a look at the switch. You can eliminate the motor, as that's working fine isn't it.

Hope this helps.

Still can't get the fan switch out! We took everything out but the center dash/console on the bottom... but the stuff that covers the harness for the radio and HVAC controls, etc is all out. We tried EVERYTHING to try and remove that last piece of "panelling" and nothing worked. We looked in the FSM (yes, hahahahahahaha I have one) and we found the pic which says how to remove the fan switch from the whole heat/air controls... Thing is... IT DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY!!!!

I have had enough of all this. I don't care anymore. I walked away and my dad put most of the stuff back together so that I can get to work. Oh joy. I swear I should just burn my car sometimes! :angryfire

Hey Ms. SaturnTangerine:

Did you ever get the fan speed switch out? My daughter is driving my old G20 and it's gone blooey too. We also haven't been able to remove it.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not Tangie, but I tried to pull my HVAC unit out because the lights were flickering and had no luck. It seems that the dash itself needs to be removed, which entails removing the glovebox, instrument panel, and seemingly the entire interior. So I gave up. I don't even notice the lights now. :)
I will check my FSM later tonight and see if there's an easier way to do things.

Thanks, Boingo!

I'm hoping it doesn't come to removing everything!

Save the images to your hard drive, they should be rather big. I give you the official Infiniti HVAC unit removal procedure. Hope it helps. Also scanned are disassembly instructions for HVAC unit.

Only use this procedure if you have already determined it's not the Blower Motor Resistor (about $20-$30) which is located under the passenger-side dash. It only requires 30 seconds and a screwdriver to replace. Stick your hand (and a flashlight) under the passenger side dash, it's a litte 2" square flat thing secured in by a screw or two. It has contacts on it similar to the contacts on the old Nintendo games... this is a very common part failure in many early-nineties Nissans. The main symptom is that fan speed 4 works (full blast) but no other fan speeds produce any output.

Good luck!

Emily

Emily - Thanks!!! That was incredibly nice of you.

Not as easy as I hoped or as bad as I feared.

We'll hit it this weekend.

Thanks Again!

Best of luck to you! :o Sorry for not responding. I've been rather busy.

Some have probs removing the switch, others have no prob at all. Let's hope you're in the latter since I wasn't ;)

I've just come on to this myself, have had no no.1 stage fan for ages, then intermittent 1 and 2 .. then 2 and 3 only, now the lights are all off, the controls don't work and the fan blows like a demon on number 4. No idea where i'm gonna get a new resistor from tho .... can't u just service or clean these things?

Will see if its the switch, from reading the other posts on here i do hop its not. That thing is a pain to change! Had half the dash out last month fitting the radio and ten miles of cable that go with it:)

Just head down to your local friendly Nissan or Infiniti dealer. :) No, you can't "service or clean these things", the problem with the resistor is that one of the paths built into the board actually breaks. Well, maybe with a soldering iron and some solder you could put it back together but I don't know how well or how long that'd work. At about $18 for the part, it's not a horrendous investment. My dad is an electronics tech (he fixes the PCBs used in construction lasers for a living) and he elected to spend the $18 rather than mess with the part.

When you pull out the old one, just check that continuity exists between each of the four channels. If it does, the part is fine.

Cheers for that, the idea of repairing comes from being part cheapskate and part fiddler;) You're right tho, at that price its not worth it .. will sort it today and let you know if it cures the problem ...

Robbing gypos .....

28 pounds plus the vat, although they do have on in stock! The service receptionist even knew what i was on about after i said the model of car and resister, so this must indeed be a common failure. Can't get the part from an automotive stockist, in the UK it's a dealer part only hence the price.

Damn i hate VAT ... and the fact that we pay in pounds what you pay in dollars ... common market my ass lol!

It works .. anyway, so once again thanks:)

Mine fan suffered the same fate - no air flow at all unless it was set to the top setting. But! it is possible to repair it!
in my case i took out the resistor card and used some solder to make sure the current could flow correctly. What had happened, you see, was that the areas of the card where the printed circuit was revealed to air had corroded and weren't providing a proper electrical connection. The solder restored this connection, leaving me feeling smug :D
