Power Windows / Electric Windows

I've had my Pimera for a few months and within a week of owning it the driver's side window started playing up. Sometimes if you push the switch for the window to go down nothing happens, if I rock the switch back and forth eventually it springs into life and winds down at what I presume is the correct speed (same as the other three anyway). I've replaced the switch with one from the scrappies, which I tested before installing and it was fine, but once in the car within a day it's playing up just like the old one.

I dismantled the old switch and it looked clean and servicable, so I'm assuming that it's something else. I don't think it's the motor because once I do get it working it goes up and down nice a quickly. But the controller box might be knackered, I don't know. Either way I'll be pulling the bloody door trims back off again!! Pain in the a*se.

If anybody has had similar experiences and resolved it I'd be really interested as it may way save me spending more money fruitlessly (although two 2nd hand switches for £2 from the scrapyard wasn't bad!).

Try lubing (with silicone spray) the rubber window run rubbers
at front & back of the window frame, take the window up &
down a couple of times & see if it improves
This was very common on the early P10's especially in warm
weather as the rubber swells & grips the glass.

Thanks for the advice. I've just gone down to the car and a mate and I tried to 'assist' the window in descending whilst holding the window button down and it didn't move. Once the window decides to move I can quite happily tootle for a three hour journey dropping with window every once in a while for a fag fine, so I'm starting to feel quite certain that it's something electrical. I might go down to the scrappies again and get the controller box out of the door and see if that solves it. They'll probably only charge me a tenner for it.

On another note. eGT's rock. Driving home yesterday happily tootling around a large round about and some wide boy in one of those new MG ZS comes flying round behind me putting down rubber and tries to climb into my boot. Come my exit for the dual carriage way, into 2nd, down the slip road on the left hand lane. MGBoy thinks haaha it's only a Primera and canes it down the right hand lane and then stops smiling as I leave him standing. Apart from the bloody window (which is having beneficial affects on my health from stopping me smoking) I really really love my Primera, even if it is just until I've got enough cash for a R33GTR!!

Just in case anybody is interested (as a lot of people suffer from this problem so it seems, but nobody has come up with a definite answer). The problem with my window was the control unit, a friend and I took it out of the car and pulled out the circuit board (I'll take pics next time!!!) and cleaned it up. The relays on the down side were really coked up. A little bit of wet and dry and the window's much better. A new unit's probably the best answer but this is working fine for the moment.

The problem is probably the relay box inside the door (Nissan calls it something else, which I can't recall). On my G20, it is about the size of a cigarette pack and sits almost dead center inside the door. I had to cut (very carefully) the plastic box open to get to the relays (2 of them) and board inside. I cleaned the relay contacts with some very fine sandpaper and resoldered a discolored connection on the board. I usded metal-faced duct tape to hold the box together.

The problem turned out to be the bad connection but the relay cleaning significantly increased the speed at which the window went up and down.

Dang, I have got to do that. Thanks for the info guys. I dunno if this is common in G's or not but especially my front right window is slow going up, especially about half the way up. I was afraid I might have to get new window motors, hopefully this works.

The electric window has started playing up again over the last week. So on Saturday I went to the scrap yard and got a new controller box which has fixed it now. It's perfect, and I'm well chuffed, of course it seems to be a recurring problem with Primeras so I'm waiting for this box to go. Here's a pic of the box's internals:

If I'd gotten to this post sooner I would've told you the same thing. Mine stopped going down and after cleaning the contacts in the control box, everything's spiffy again.

So glad I found this thread, this is exactly the problem I am having on my 1991 Nissan 180sx. Only I had to spend £30 including delivery for a switch from a scrappy. Didn't have an option really. Put it in and the window worked. Put the door lining back on and it stopped again. So annoying. I'm going to try to find this controller box, its probably the same as in a Primera. I will let you know if it fixes my problem. Should also point out that before the window stopped working completely, the auto up/down stopped, I will see if this starts again too.

i had the same problems with my electric windows on my 94/95 eGT i finally found out that the window was letting in water which was f------ up my motor and it messed up my speakers allso then i found out my car is just one big leak the water was coming in from everywhere-the reg light at the rear ,the rear light console,drivers and passenger window and now the ruddy sunroof ,oh yeah the ruddy drivers side spotlight was full of water i have finally located and fixed all the leaks(touch wood)lol
