Does anybody know what size of speakers come in the 2002 Avalanche? Mine sound like crap, and I'd like to replace them. I just don't know what size. I am guessing they are 6.5". Can anybody confirm or deny this?

Thanks,

try crutchfield.com to see a listing/sizes for your vehicle

I tried Crutchfield. It tells me anything from5 1/4 to 6 3/4 will work.

I can look through the speaker grills on the front door, and it appears that there are two different size speakers on each of the front doors. I am going to guess it has a factory component system in the front (again, I don't know for sure, that's why I'm asking in here). It looks like a 6.5" driver and a 1" (or maybe a 1/2") tweeter in each door. I can't tell for sure. Tweeter looks like it is mounted in some sort of bracket. I don't want to take the door panel off just to check the size of the speakers. I'd like to have the speaks in hand to change them out and only have to take the door panel off one time. Has anybody in here ever taken off the door panel to replace their speaks?

I also have a 2002 Avalanche with Onstar and want to upgrade speakers and unit head. what did you find out about the speaker size? I tried Crutchfield and it was very non informative.

Hi Yes you are quite correct that the speakers are co-axial speakers, to replace them with "better sounding" speakers you should be aware that some Amps may not be adequate to drive your new speakers, so be sure you have an amp that is capable, or you may have far worse sound than you do now such as a lot of bass distortion, a bit of roll-off, so check the specs on the amp and match the speakers to it
saves a big headache and money.
