91 accord , 4 cyl . Its been getting progressivley worse to start after its warmed up .

Used to be able to go to a friends house , go to leave in 10 minutes and it just cranks over . Wait an hr and it fires right up .

Then it got to where it wanted to sit 2 hrs .

Yesterday I was stuck at work and had to get a ride home . It sat for 9 hrs and didnt start at 6 when i was leaving . It was 105 degrees out also sitting right in the sun .

went to start it this morning , fires right up .

you got bad ignitor.
that is common problem for 4gen accords.

its fixed ! I replaced the ignitor last year actually after it quit running one day .

But what I found was this . A friend of mine that used to be a service writer at Honda said it was the "Main relay " .

He was right . It runs the fuel pump. Its under the dash on mine . You have to remove a silver box computer looking thing to get to it . Its on the roof of the dash .

Honda wanted 62 bucks .... I said yea huh . I took the cover off it , and saw 2 cold solder connections on the board . Yee haa ... got out my soldering iron , hit the 2 joints and now she runs perfect all day long .:D :D :D :D :D :D

I used to work on copiers and faxes , and all the time was soldering something on them boards . So I got good at picking out a cold joint . Saved me 62 bucks !

In case you wonder what a cold solder is ..... look for a crack around the posts where the solder is . You have to look close . Just re-heat it , and whaa laa .

would that silver box probably be located in the same spot in my 92 accord? cuase its acting up just like you said but not badly. :bandit:

more than likely yours is the exact same . The silver box is under the dash near the clutch pedal . It has 2 .... 10 mm bolts holding it on . I believe its the antilock brake module .

But take those bolts out , swing the box down , and look straight up above where it was . You lll see a brown connector going into a relay . Its not your common relay . Most are black . This ones gray and is 2 times as big .

Its held in place pretty good by a metal bracket . All I did was shove a screwdriver in the bracket where the relay is kinds molded to it , and it fell off with some effort .

Take the plastic cover off the relay , and look on the green board . Theres like maybe 20 solder points . 2 of them will have cracked solder .

Just be careful when you are heating them , not to let the solder drool and touch another solder point and make a bridge . Its a pain to separate them . But you will be fine . Use a small tipped gun .

By the way ..... my symptoms were like this .... starts perfectly in the morning every day , get to work , go to leave after 30 min , and it just turns over and over . Had spark , no fuel .

Wow - thats a pretty damn good way to save a few bucks.

ACCORDADICTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! how much is that ignitor thing? or do i have to buy the whole kit for just that one part????? im really in need of this. the heat and having the car parked out in the sun effects the ignitor, right???????? :bandit:

my moms 91EX is beginning to do that shit, I will have to check out the ignitor sometime, maybe I can get $62 out of my parents if I fix it to put toward a new amp:D

replace ignitor and coil at the same time. Not sure about why, I just do it!!! Cost for both are around $175 unless you know someone.

Thank you for the clear instructions on how to fix the problem. I tried it over the weekend and it seems working. I will know the answer this afternoon after work I guess. However, I believe you have the remmedy to fix the problem.
